I am going to think about this!! Dr. Laura Wasylenki has a bunch of neat research on biomineralization if you haven't stumbled upon her work before, you may be interested, she also works on deep ocean stuff so there may be cross application there too. This stuff is so cool, sounds like a fun project

I think you could make an argument for things like some types of kidney stones in humans here, if I understand your framing correctly (?). They aren't biologically controlled by the body but they are precipitated within the solution that exists within the body (?).
