Donald Trump is embarrassing the United States on the world stage. We are a country that stands up to dictators and fights for democracy. Minnesota stands firmly with our allies in Ukraine.

The problem with industrializing bioinformatics is that there is almost always a problem with the data that you’ve gotta solve

Just got fired from being a freshman football coach, if you want to know what MAGA does to communities. They don’t care about what helps people, because the school is certainly not going to find an ex-NFL player willing to coach there at that level, they only care about trying to hurt people.

Never heard of Matthew Memoli? Until recently, I hadn't either. But he's the acting director behind the ongoing illegal shutdown at NIH. This Atlantic story gets into the weeds to explain why everything is still jammed up.

Every single philanthropic institution needs to do this rather than retracting right now. abcnews-go-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/abcnews....

“It would have a similar effect to the closing of a steel mill,” said … Cooper, a professor of microbiology at the University of Pittsburgh. “This is not a steel town anymore; it’s a biomedical research town, and those cuts would affect Pittsburgh perhaps more than any other city in the country.”

I talked to NIH officials, current and former, about what's been happening inside the agency since the Trump administration shut down their grantmaking pipeline in January. Their stories showed just how willing our new leaders are to break the law: www.theatlantic.com/health/archi...

Love working and catching up with y’all!

Great slide from @kstsosie.bsky.social - don’t just say you’re engaging with a community to get your funding, sincerely engage with it #AGBTGM #AGBT25

Beyond thrilled - I’ve been awarded an NSF CAREER grant! I get to continue making scientific discoveries, training the next generation of researchers, & sharing knowledge about the scientific enterprise with the general public. This support is much needed, personally & professionally…let’s GOOO!!!

What an inspiring talk @kstsosie.bsky.social #AGBTGM #AGBT25

@catharineaquino.bsky.social here’s my handle 🧬

Thanks to all of the NIHers and their friends who reached out to me. I am still here (DM me or Signal jeremymberg.78) I still have a very incomplete picture but based on what I have been told, the damage to NIH and to many wonderful people who work(ed) there is/was impossible for me to imagine 1/n

Because this is getting downplayed in some of the coverage, the racist staffer DOGE rehired isn’t a case of “stupid things he wrote years ago as a teen.” He posted about how we should “normalize Indian hate” IN SEPTEMBER.

It’s been a tough few weeks. My 10yo daughter was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer called interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS). I’m reaching out to identify clinicians/patients who have encountered pediatric IDCS or other (non-LCH) dendritic or histiocytic sarcomas cases.

I made another starter pack for Genomics Core Facilities . It’s a work in progress. Please let me know if you want to be included . go.bsky.app/HiWxZZc

Dear Wash U peeps, Did I dance to Dale Don tonight as the old auntie on the dance floor? Yes. The answer is yes. Your old friend, D

A quick reminder for folks at #Evol2024/#Evolution2024 - we have a Code of Conduct & there are Evo Allies here to help you (including me!). If something happens that doesn't feel right, please let us know and we can support you, including support with reporting unwelcome behavior.

NHGRI is searching for new faculty in computational genomics! The NIH intramural program funds labs, not projects, so it's all research and no grant writing. Come work with me at one of the best places in the world to do genomics research! #ASHG23 www.genome.gov/careers-trai...

Great work

Very happy to see that our review on gene regulatory networks is being featured by Nature Reviews Genetics and that it inspired its cover! 🥳 doi.org/10.1038/s415...

#rstats What are your favourite examples when teaching students to think critically about data/figures and interpretations? For example, Simpson's Paradox and the importance of considering important subpopulations - is brilliantly displayed in the Palmer Penguins dataset.
