Late yesterday, Trump issued an executive order that terminates HHS's Long COVID advisory committee. The committee's focus was bringing perspectives from outside government to inform action of the Executive Branch on Long COVID and other infection-associated chronic conditions.

A key to understanding this is that the people who were committing PPP fraud are the base of Trump and the Republican Party's support

A quick resistance task: 1. Google Gulf of Mexico 2. “Gulf of America" is the top 3. Click on the three little dots to the right of it 4. Select "Send Feedback" 5. Click on "Gulf Of America" 6. Select "Inaccurate content" 7. Select "Incorrect" and type in "The correct name is “Gulf of Mexico"

“Once you decide that a single vulnerable minority can be sacrificed, you’re operating within a fascist logic,” they said. “That means there might be a second one you’re willing to sacrifice and a third, a fourth. Then what happens?”

Chicago friends! Please join us next week for the second event in the series on Alien Embodiments. mailchi.mp/uchicago/oct...

I appreciate all the people recommending the Shock Doctrine. I've been thinking about what makes Trump's use of these tactics a little different. In recent decades, shock tactics were used mainly to rapidly impose neoliberal economic policies. But what Trump is doing goes way beyond that. a 🧵

This is such great news. For so long Amazon has had a chokehold on ebooks. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/28/b...

People being more upset about losing TikTok than the loss of democracy is pretty telling.

Thank you @scifri.bsky.social for reporting on the bird flu and the unfortunate deaths without correlating them with age. We have to stop this narrative that only the old and sick people die of infections. This is neither true nor should it matter. pca.st/episode/984d...

It's always exciting to meet your students in the first class of the quarter. Today I'll meet 20 curious souls interested in studying imaginations of climate futures in media, arts, and design. Seriously looking forward to that.

Billionaires should not exist. The existence of billionaires is a policy failure.

This holiday season give yourself and those around you the gift of good health. Wear a respirator. It’s the simplest and most effective way to stop the spread of COVID and other airborne viruses and avoid ringing in the new year with debilitating chronic illness.

Hallo dt.

Great project! And so good to see you here, Verena!

A question for academics teaching in the humanities who have used VR in classes: How easy (not) was it for your students to get used to VR? What worked well, what did not? E.g. did you provide manuals or tutorials of some kind? Did you try group work? Thankful for any amount of wisdom! #academicsky

Seeing a lot of undergrad international students carrying a lot of extra burdens and in crisis in this post-election end-of-term season. I had forgotten what the first Trump admin did to our international enrollment, but I sure remember now. Be kind during finals. They're not ok.

Honored to be part of the team that Carey Jewitt put together to organize the workshop "Digital communication moving beyond human-centric replication" at CHI 2025! We just received the acceptance. Yay!

@bsky.app @jay.bsky.team @samuel.bsky.team I am truly concerned about this scam website issue! Please help spread the word. The official site for Sky Follower Bridge is www.sky-follower-bridge.dev. I hope that no one falls victim to the scam site. 🙏

Hope to see you at #SCMS25 in Chicago! I will present a paper on "The experience of disorientation in Virtual Reality and its implications for everyday life," and will be around as much as possible while also teaching. The downsides of attending a conference in your home town...

I’ve personally experienced the impact of laws like HR 9495. When Egypt's autocratic government used similar tactics to silence us for our pro-democracy work, the US—Dems & Republicans—was there to fight it. The idea that it’d now adopt the same framework fought is devastating.
