Reasonable people have been co-opted into the idea that a declared legal donation is just like "a bit of cake" or "gold wallpaper". Declared, same as undeclared. Legal, same as illegal. This isn't just a smear of Labour. It's a whitewash of the Tories and a lot of good folks just picked up a brush.

Fmr UK-US ambassador Sir Kim Darroch on Trump's plan to end the war in Ukraine: "It was a ludicrous thing to say. He's giving away any leverage on Putin. What Trump is actually proposing looks to me like a huge defeat for the West. It's ending the war by, effectively, forcing Ukraine to surrender."🔥

I’m trying to find a way to talk about 8 people who have drowned in the Channel this morning. Trying to find a formulation of words that will change something and mean I don’t have to do this anymore. That migrants don’t have to do this anymore. I can’t say the same thing again.

Hey, America. Here in the UK, we let our eyebrows do the talking. @atrupar.bsky.social @mehdirhasan.bsky.social @acyn.bsky.social

Moreover, Harwood is falsely mispresenting the government's plan. He clearly has not spent any time at all looking at the actual draft secondary legislation, which has a very specific definition of junk food - www.gov.uk/government/c... If he's a journalist, I'm a starship captain.

The gamers and cat people were bad enough on here before, now they’ve got video they’re unbearable.

"The Conservative administration spent £79,603,815 on judicial reviews against the Home Office last year." That is more than the previous three years combined. And it's ON TOP of the half billion+ frittered on the Rwanda gimmick. ~AA @politicshome.bsky.social www.politicshome.com/news/article...

It makes perfect sense that my first ever BlueSky video should be in defence of migrants from Telegraph bullshit.

Telegraph article: "The OBR found that the average migrant worker pays more in tax than they receive in public services throughout their lives compared to British-born workers." The headline:

A recent report found 15-year-old girls in Britain are the most unhappy in the world. I asked one why that is. She replied straight away: "It's the boys": www.thetimes.com/magazines/th...

Interesting. I guess the slight pushback might be as to how many of these meetings, summits etc have significant value, but no question that the UK joining CPTPP is not a game changer in any way.

Absolutely fuck these ghastly people.

So Parliament is back in recess for the conferences now. It’s been pretty productive few weeks - we’ve passed the bill to start bringing trains back into public ownership, kicked off the plan to end no fault evictions and sort renting, passed the bill to stop future PMs behaving like Liz Truss …

OBR analysis of migrants' long-term fiscal impacts: migrants on average wages make significant positive contribution over both short & long run. Since, overall, migrants are about average (although newer migrants may do *better*), consistent with OBR/my/others earlier analysis

Strongly suspect that people who say “I just didn’t hear enough fine print from the coherent one of the two” are just trying to find a polite way of rationalising casting their vote for the crazy one despite feeling embarrassed over their choice. They’re not going to be won over with footnotes.

Well, what's the worst that could happen?? 😬 “Last year was outrageous and it’s happened again.” "Last year Antartica’s sea ice was 1.6m sq km below average – the size of Britain, France, Germany and Spain combined. This week it had even less than that." www.theguardian.com/world/articl...

The replies to this are hilarious. Ince is an Englishman, and centrist is something very different in the UK to what it is in the US. A UK centrist would be considered a marxist by the US right. Whereas a US centrist would be firmly of the right on the UK. The scales are different.

this from jonathan last is extremely real

It will never be normal that in the USA you have to defend yourself in a debate from accusations that you will “take people’s guns away”. The thing above all else that makes us all thankful not to be American. People should have their guns taken away. That & healthcare.

I watched Joe Rogan’s stand up in Austin, and wrote about how the heterodox created a new orthodoxy, and how the anti-woke coalition is fracturing. Gift link 👇 www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

Like the Labour party have been hiding its links to the unions for all these years since the unions, er, set it up.

Mel Stride in the Commons points to Labour accepting money from unions and says: "Therein lies the simple truth about who is running the Labour Party." I hope someone brings up Stride's defence of accepting £10m from Frank Hester. Is the truth as simple the other way round? ~AA

Anybody surprised by this? If i applied for a job and never turned up i'd be sacked. Why is it different for Politicians?

This is an astounding over-valuation. About 35 times its last profit… You only pay that if you look at media ownership as something the main benefit of which is not to be found in a pure profit calculation. ~AA www.theguardian.com/media/articl...

No one absolutely no one famous from my school. But Airwair boots were made in the same village and so most of the factory workers went to my school. So I’m gonna say ‘Airwairs’ are the most famous thing from my school.

UK: We can't afford to give primary school children lunch. France: We already give children 4-course lunches, but research found them hungry at end of day too, with parents giving ultra-processed snacks because they're working — so let's give an after school snack now too fyi @nigella.bsky.social

An asylum seeker has been left in limbo waiting for their claim to be processed for SIXTEEN (16) yrs. They've been here since the LAST LABOUR GOVERNMENT. There are thousands of people, thousands, waiting over 5 yrs. The system is trash. It serves no one. www.bigissue.com/news/social-...

Just arrived in the UK on Stena Britannica at Harwich after a lovely night crossing. Now 30 minutes to get through customs and border control. Borders are so overrated.

The Tories blamed Labour for 14 years but did so with the active backing of the media, including the BBC. Labour will not get that. As Laura makes clear. Labour needs to understand this. The rules are always different for a Labour government.

Marc is back, two in a row after nearly three years!

No Tom Tugendhat!😡 We just need you ALL to be silent! Just disappear into the wilderness! You have absolutely NOTHING to offer the people of 🇬🇧!🤔 We need a Conservative revolution, says Tugendhat www.bbc.com/news/article...

After interviewing five Prime Ministers without properly challenging them, Laura Kuenssberg somehow works out how to do it the minute Labour get into power.
