The gifs here sometimes have alt text but the default is usually pretty barebones and sometimes inaccurate. For pictures you have to write your own. After you upload a picture or gif if you press it again an alt text entry thing comes up.

I’m not mad at you and I don’t think you’re a bad person or anything. I do think you are underestimating just how important advanced agricultural science will be in addressing climate change and how important it is to maintaining urban centers overall.

Most farm work is hard. The most disproportionate disconnect between labor expended to pay is farm labor and it is one of the most vital functions of modern civilization. Pandora’s box is open and the only way we will return to hunter/gatherer/sustenance farming societies is a nuclear winter.

Why do you think that’s the argument I was making? Quite the opposite in fact.

How is saying that the second oldest profession in the world is a specialized field like medicine or engineering that is necessary for dense urban centers to exist doomerism? If anything it’s trying to come up with a contingency plan that isn’t just a security blanket.

There is literally bachelor’s and doctorate programs for agriculture. There are whole ag schools for christ sake. Even the farm labor people deem “non skilled” is actually super fucking specialized and requires both specialized physical skill and knowledge it takes years to obtain.

Agriculture is actually resource and labor intensive. An unkept tree will produce little to no fruit. What about pests and diseases? I have seen neighbors in fairly low density areas fight over who gets to pick fruit from a tree, in dense places it would be a huge fight for a single apple.

It’s always funny when someone from the lower 48 talks about how they will do sustenance hunting if everything goes to shit like there wasn’t a joint effort between the government and robber barons during the push west to eradicate game animals in an effort to starve Natives.

The county I live in put out a statement denouncing vaccines and ordering the health department not to recommend them today and the part I’ve been fixating on the most is how shitty a job they did formatting it.
