Still super early but the encounter design is very clearly a step up from base game. Just got out of one zone that honestly felt like a puzzle in the sense of "how tf do i navigate this without getting absolutely reamed"
Im digging it

>gemini mentions that the zoo "burnt down"
The idea of a zoo in particular burning down is EXTREMELY funny. Never change Round 8.

Everyone ignores that. Turns out being the Disney of video games and leveraging that kind of brand awareness brings in big bucks and big playerbases, who'da thought.

And frankly that kind of dude has had it too good for too long

If anything, the issue becomes that now only a specific KIND of player can be good: the walking encyclopedia of frame data dudes. The number of avenues you can seek to get an edge on the competition gets culled down to just knowing more numbers.

Also i feel like the whole "well smash bros does it and theyre succesful!" thing ive seen repeated for like 10 years ignores how sakurai likely did that because smash bros -needs- to be direction agnostic unlike 2d fighters, not cuz its 'easier'
The dude played snk fighters ffs

Motion inputs feel good! More games, and frankly more players, need to emphasize that there is a tactile joy in many motion inputs.

Like that in particular feels so incredibly zelda-knock-off-on-the-ps2 coded but its all throughout the game's vibe tbh, its really charming and sets it apart from most souls wannabes

Imho i think LoP could drop the souls RPG features entirely and be better for it
comment in response to
post
Its weakest parts however:
-souls style lore drops
-souls style side quests
-souls style char progression (weapon upgrades/levelling stats)
-souls style enemy loot
Being a hybrid soulslike allowed it to flourish, but to continue improving i think itll need to abandon more vestiges of souls

Like, LoP's strengths are:
-engaging, comittal combat
-equally complex and fun boss design
-weapon/playstyle customization
-enemy gauntlets/encounter design
-a straight forward but charming storyline

I think its a corner they painted themselves in tbh.
If a sequel leans AWAY from various fromsoft soulslike tropes, like what they did with the foreshadowed broken stargazer, i think it would suit LoP's strengths better
