Nixon would walk through the pits before races asking:
"OK, which one of you sons-a-bitches gonna finish second?"
May have been smiling, but he wasn't joking. I think he put that chip on his shoulder for the same reason Jorge does: To keep a world he doesn't entirely trust at arm's length ๐

Thailand is an ancient culture with a beautiful language, but it's many nuances can confuse visitors:
"Oh fuck!" = เนเธญเน เธเธฃเธฐเนเธเนเธฒ! (Xรด phracรชฤ!)
"Oh shit!" = เนเธญเน เนเธเธตเนเธข! (Xรด cheฤซฬy!)
PS, Birds fly, Fish swim, GP Pilots train. And World Champions do it rocking some seriously flash kit. Get over it ๐ ๐

Mate, that's not on ANYONE'S list of "things to whinge about". It's not a morality play, just "I want to win but can't on this rolling slag heap".
Nails ALWAYS say hammers are unfair. Never changes ๐ ๐

As he should. I mean, Bambi may have had a good heart & a friendly disposition and all, but it gets to a point where NOT shouting "Oh, enough of this shit" can only be viewed as abnormal behavior.
WSBK should at least give him some cute little Bavarian Antlers ๐

Reading Honda R&D Tech paper, thinking "well, glad nobody else is getting a bloody headache"... and it hits me: Fuck that!
Highlighted = Extreme PVRS F1 Exh Valve closing g force to avoid bounce. CVRS can't do this. All WSBK CVRS teams swap valve springs. Why not allow a swap to proper ones?

Nope. PVRS slowly bleeds pressure (GP Bikes = rechargeable reservoirs), so not practical street kit. Or needed. But neither are racing slicks, yet we accept those... and $$ racing valve springs costing MORE over a season than PVRS.
WSBK Teams toss fatigued CVRS springs out like used slicks ๐ฐ ๐

In '08 Yamaha adopted PVRS + FF, gaining +13% BHP, +2K RPM, and broad power.
WSBK Fuel Flow? Same issue. MVRS slams exh valve shut, trapping fuel/air efficiently past 16.5K RPM. CVRS = more air/fuel out exhaust. CVRS to PVRS conversion = Cheap & Cheerful way to balance WSBK grid performance.

Dr Blair showed the limiting factor was Exhaust Valve Bounce. CVRS couldn't control the aggressive cam profiles required for BOTH high RPM breathing & usable power bands. The choice was snapped valves or a gentle closing rate's ultra peaky power.
800s increased RPM and MVRS GP07 dominated ๐

Bit harsh, that. Italy should have been allowed to go right on building the Fiat CR.42 Falco. If that concerned anyone the RAF could have kept a flight of Gladiators handy in Malta ๐

Maybe just an illusion due to the camera angle. But...
1. Nothing intrigues Race Engineers more than unused energy.
2. In WW2 considerable resources were devoted to generating net thrust via shaping of exhaust stacks.
3. Best (RR Merlin/Griffon) net thrust โ 12% engine BHP at Target Alt/Vel ๐

Helped enormously. Cast iron (and other barbarous mat'l) = great heat sinks (but awful shedding heat via air-cooling). F1 used CI w/LC to create insane Turbo BHP.
Cal Rayborn's '72 match race heroics were possible as races = just short enough not to overfill an Iron-head XRTT's heat reservoir

2. Degrade original service to uselessness.
3. Offer 'premium' upgrade to get something that works.

Needed: kW/h in -> Heat-Reservoir -> kW/h out. I.e., Cyl-head mass to store excess kW, keeping Tยฐ below Drunk Uncle Bob zone. kW/h in < kW/hr out in corners then drains reservoir.
Mass of AC race engines > LC (including extra bits). For thermal stability, XR heads MUST weigh a fucking ton โ

Staying in the sport after what he went through in 2023 took courage. It was horrible to watch him take a beating that would have made most lesser mortals cry: 'No mas'.
But leaving Honda? You're spot-on, mate That took no more courage than it would to flee a burning building ๐ฅ ๐ฌ

'81 Laguna Seca: Rob Muzzy was kind enough to give me 15 minutes of his wisdom on a late Friday afternoon. Came away with specs and a lesson that took: Run what the winners run.

Der Reifengriff ist alles, Dummkopf
In Engineering Analysis we called these events 'showstoppers', meaning until an RC16/25 manages its Tyres as well as a GP24... WP suspension, weird V4 angles, weirder exhaust systems & serrated aero rubbish aren't solutions, only noise masking the issues ๐
