Absolutely, but it verges on corporate negligence if there was prior acceptance that outcomes don’t matter. A long term strategy still requires interim tactical flexibility, if only to navigate to calmer waters before sinking the ship!

This perplexes me, surely a Manager manages a squad of players to get the best out of them until he can develop a style of play by introducing different players over time. This idea that he can be ‘allowed’ to make excuses because he is associated with a particular style is nonsense.

All opinions are subjective aren’t they? Anyway, I reserve the right to express my opinion that Martinez is not even in the top 5 of the current crop of GK’s and that he’s overrated. Hope that’s ok with everyone.

So if that is the case, what is the point in awarding individual honours to any GK? I don’t have any agenda here, but I’m endlessly bemused when Martinez wins these awards given the amount of individual errors.
