Glad @billgates.com is on Bluesky and excited to see what the global health community can achieve together in the next 25 years in the quest to eradicate child deaths!

The first of 3 global health poster walks kicks off at #SGIM25 shortly. See you at 8! Meet me and Jeremy Schwartz at the poster room entrance.

Thrilled that #SGIM25 is underway. Quick update: Global health interest group will meet in Diplomat Ballroom 3 as part of a larger community forum on responding to Trump's national and global war on health equity and justice. See you there. Disregard other site in the program.

So glad @societygim.bsky.social is now on Bluesky, and excited for #SGIM25 tomorrow in Florida! The Global Health and Human Rights interest group is planning some exciting new programming at this year's conference we'd love to share with you. A quick thread:

The idea that an NIH grant is guaranteed to anyone or that anyone believes that is wildly false - as I have been repeatedly reminded the hard way.

Just got my Friday update from the NIH

No one who even aspires to call themselves a scientist would say precisely what their result will be and when. This defeats the entire purpose of science itself, by putting the answer ahead of the question.

Calling Abe Lincoln the attending physician is awesome

Keep telling these concrete tangible stories of human suffering as far and wide as possible imho. I’ve struggled at it with my own work but I will keep trying to Improve.

Sometimes I think problem this is global health's greatest enemy - especially fields of global health (like chronic disease research) where deaths are prevented only decades down the road

Ooh more info please

It's like the goal is to be cartoonishly evil at this point. *Dick Dastardly and Muttley with sick laughter* as a wise man once said

My late grandfather - a progressive Democrat who protested the Vietnam War in middle age - used to tell my brothers and I never to listen to anyone who invoked the “good old days.” He reminded us that not only was medicine and technology much worse, there were many social prejudices now overcome.

I am so glad and grateful!

I’m sure I’m not the first person to say this but let’s criticize Hegseth for being a cruel and heartless person per se and not for having a (likely) alcohol use disorder. This is the least faultable thing about him.

I got my facts wrong on a request this afternoon - got privately corrected and felt bad - then saw this and was delighted I felt bad

I have to laugh or I’ll cry

Millions will die if PEPFAR is not restored and as many people need to know this as possible

Can’t stress enough how much these seeming strokes of a pen can ruin so much effort and promising ideas.

Love to see yet another own-goal due to administrative incompetence: this one focusing on the chronic disease pandemic that even RFK Jr agrees is a crisis

Please don’t shut up- problems and attention equally welcome at this stage @greenwell.bsky.social !

This is great data but these days when I see a US headline saying “new state added” I start to panic

A remarkable and desperately needed (if imperfect) win for @altusaid.altgov.info and all of global health.

TFW you're at an academic conference and the presenter says "so...this is a busy slide"

I’ve been thinking a lot about what the world will be able to do better from learning how much we broke so carelessly

It. Is. Not. Normal. Anywhere.

Per Dr Atul Gawande, ex USAID: “All malaria supplies protecting 53 million people, mostly children, including bed nets, diagnostics, preventive drugs, and treatments – terminated.” There are no words that sufficiently describe this level of cruelty and sadism.

Ok but if this is the only or best argument to sway people, we have bigger problems

I suspect @agawande.bsky.social could release a tweet an hour on this thread for months and still it would not run out. There are hundreds if not thousands of examples. I personally know several examples from colleagues and friends, and can't even disclose due to their fear of retaliation.

Lots of Anonymous Wombats (etc.) poring over this Google doc with me right now

Unbelievable. Thanks @wired.com for breaking.

I just advised a dear friend in the US government who got this e-mail to reply thusly. Although I hadn't even noted it then, we in fact did several of those things together last week.

This idea and its implications are both horrifying and brilliant
