State governments should cut off all state and local cooperation with the FBI, and they should do it immediately. No law requires it, the Constitution fully empowers you to not even return their calls. But there is no legitimate purpose now in treating them as an acceptable partner for anything.

In presidentialist systems parties have a leader if they have a president or a presidential candidate. The rest of the time they are coordinating mechanisms with an emphasis on legislative leadership and campaigns for the next election. Very hard to get a leader of the opposition out of that.
