My prize from @isasaxonists.bsky.social's raffle for Dr Alasmar in Gaza (plus a couple of skeins I, uh, tripped and fell into buying) arrived from Republic Of Yarnia today! Terrible photo of STUNNING yarn

Literally just lying about the law now, aren't they...

We condemn the University of Cambridge's attempt to place legal restrictions on all pro-Palestine protests. Alongside @pscupdates.bsky.social and @libertyhq.bsky.social we call out this application to the High Court for an injunction what it is: a shameful attack on basic democratic rights.

Oh fuck, what a grift. J6 terrorists sue a DOJ controlled by Trump; Trump orders DOJ lawyers to settle for an undisclosed amount, both sides agree to an NDA. This can happen dozens, hundreds of times. Just an ingenious way to funnel tax dollars to far-right terrorist groups.

No more US Worldcons while this policy is in place. It's probably too late for @seattlein2025.org , but @laworldcon.bsky.social should consider whether it's possible to move to an alternate location outside the US. Certainly going forward we shouldn't seat any more US Worldcons.

The National Jewish Book Award winning author of HOW TO FIGHT ANTISEMITISM is now DEFENDING NAZI SALUTES I FUCKING CANNOT

Currently reading @amalelmohtar.com's The River Has Roots and it is, naturally, breathtakingly beautiful and bittersweet... but also, bookshop events people down south, I have thoughts on the PERFECT chairs for events for this one in England!

When you’re willing to sanction Russia but not Israel, you demonstrate that there’s no morality, no ethics behind your movements, only the viciousness of American geopolitics.

No one even believes that opt-out is intended to work. It is just a convenient fig leaf that allows the thieves to pretend that they care while ignoring everyone’s opt-out requests.

The only salute we give Elon is a single finger salute, the only sign we give Nazis is a red and black flag

US pals, go see Amal talking about my literal most anticipated read of the year! UK pals... I'm working on it? 🤐

What makes you look at the Scottish electorate and think "imitating the Tories who are imitating widely hated American fascists is definitely the way to go"

Very grateful for how well my novel SHIGIDI has done internationally and critically (9 award nominations and 1 win!) but sales in North America have been tepid. So if you're in North America and you enjoyed the book, kindly talk about it, get it for a friend, leave a review. It all helps. Thanks!

Paging all Labour members

Hey @stephanieburgis.bsky.social look what I've got!

Reminder that our UK Labour government are up to exactly the same shit right now

And there it is. Same holds for activists, writers, "free speech" orgs, arts institutions and everyone else who has been silent for 15 months.

notable that transphobes couldn’t even get a dogwhistle motion passed at Scottish Labour’s last conference, but the leadership don’t give a shit what members think so they’ve u-turned without even bothering to ask

This is the single greatest promotion in the history of tabletop gaming.

The Labour Party are the party of bigotry. Well, another party of bigotry. Their disgust towards trans people is unchecked and LGBT+ Labour are nowhere

Alongside the "for fuck's sake, you're richer than god, pay some copywriters" thing, the lack of *care* is fully jokerising me. Just..."our customers are dumb pigs who deserve slop. They're paying us, and they don't deserve human thought going into what they receive." I hate it so, so much.

I signed up to get these in my inbox and they're really fun little insights because every single one is taking a different approach

I used to give away Pratchett books on the anniversary of his death, March 12th. I haven't done it in a few years. I'm bringing it back. I can send a potato to a politician on your behalf, or I can send you a Pratchett book on the 12th, your choice. To enter, list your fav Pratchett quote.

The Guardian, which keeps telling me it cares about climate change.

For people asking what’s wrong with substack

@jameslatimer.bsky.social has to point out to @theguardian.com that some of us have been writing epic fantasy while female for a while now. (@theguardian.com - there are more female epic fantasy writers called Anna S in the UK than female epic fantasy writers worldwide I think you've ever reviewed).

Pleading for subscribers on the basis of trustworthiness and paying journalists cannot be paired with OpenAI, which is an active attempt to undercut pay and cannot be trusted

trade unions have remained, relative to other organisations in the UK, remarkably transphobe-resistant

I mean… "how inspired he was by the stories of unspeakable evil"??? Yes, as in filing them away for hashtag inspo reference. Grotesque.

The Stonewall Inn released a response to the National Parks Service removing the word transgender from the park outside of the Inn. A great reminder that we have to look after each other

Waiting at Dublin airport to fly home, after a week on tour with the incredible Omar El Akkad. Touring has always been my favourite part of being a publicist - it’s a huge privilege to spend time with writers you admire, meeting readers and booksellers - but some tours also just hit differently. >
