Huge thank you to @birdsinwales.bsky.social for supporting our Willow Tit project at the nature reserve. Glorious day yesterday monitoring the boxes. Some early signs of 'digging' in one of the boxes. We will monitor boxes over the coming months. Scrapes, scrub and wet woodland are all looking good.

At a low-low tide, who knows what unusual sea life treasures lie in the rock pools and clinging to the supports of Mumbles Pier? Certainly the kind of creatures usually only seen snorkelling 💙 Join us for the Mumbles Seashore Safari 2025! www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/mumbles-se...

Recent surveys at Llantrisant Common have found several Marsh Fritillary larval web (post hibernation) clusters, basking in the sun. It is excellent news and this year will be the fourth year that the butterfly has bred on the Common following their reintroduction. Hopefully another successful year.

Its that time of year when our wildlife garden needs a bit of attention, ready for the year ahead. We have hundreds of Devil's-bit Scabious plants ready to be potted on or fed to our growing Marsh Fritillary caterpillars. Lots to do, so its great having wonderful volunteers to help out - thank you.

Our Pied Flycatcher boxes have now been cleaned ready for 2025. 2024 was mixed for the Amman Valley. 24 PF nests in 2024 (17 in 2023). However, we suspect that the success rate in 2024 was lower, probably due to bad weather in summer. Several nests had abandoned eggs and dead chicks unfortunately

Nice day out down west. Surf Scoter at Gilman Point, Green Winged Teal at Newport and Pallid Harrier at Dowrog. #birdingWales

While out in my #wildlifegarden planning for this year it was nice to see signs of spring and plants starting to grow in the #wildlifepond

My Mother has been having a single semi-regular Ring Necked Parakeet visiting the feeders for a few years, but the last few days a group of 4 have been visiting. I guess the Morriston Park birds must have successfully bred. #birdingWales

Early seawatch at Gilman Point, poor visibility and freezing cold. Then a quick stop at Ginst, Marsh Harrier, distant M+F Scaup. #birdingWales
