It looks very much like the Department of Homeland Security memo seeking to revoke Ozturk's visa copied language directly from the Canary Mission website. Is DHS just following the "deport list" from an anonymous website? donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-attack...

The bipartisan belief that America would be a better place if *other people* worked in a factory. www.ft.com/content/8459...

It’s moments like these when we might consider it relevant that the current FBI director who might be charged with investigating this crime appeared eight times on the podcast of Stew Peters, a Christian Nationalist who recently called for a “final solution” to America’s “Jewish problem.”

I wrote an article last month about the other people at this conference for all of the good that it did www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

There's a neighborhood on 29 called King's Contrivance

a better world is possible

There are demography and sociology of the family tracks at every major sociology conference if you are interested in the actual science instead of just getting on the fourteen words train with the birth rate freaks

Paging all critical university studies folks—and anyone keen to learn more about university budgets—I'm jazzed to announce this is happenin' next week! Join us👇✊

Rewatching Andor and Genevieve O'Reilly's monologue where she gradually reveals herself to her liberal banker college buddy is just flawless. My man is scoffing, thinking his "In this house" yard sign is gonna turn her off. "Or perhaps you find my politics a bit strong for your tastes?" 👩‍🍳 🤌

The exclusion covers more than $300 billion worth of trade, including $100 billion from China, about a quarter of Chinese imports. It's a huge change and the put it out late on a Friday night with no press release

Wasn't he a weak dollar real estate guy for the last fifty years

Well at least my dad is addicted to x, the everything app, now. First in line for social security.

Going to SASE for the first time this July to share a first attempt at an epilogue to the book: "Al Gore's Invention: Towards a New Economic History of the Internet." Lemme know if you'll be there, or just in Montreal in July

Eating somewhere called "urban oyster" tomorrow in Baltimore and the name has been cracking me up all week

An Amazon worker, Leony Salcedo-Chevalier, was killed at the JFK8 distribution center in Staten Island this week--run over by a reversing box truck. This is why the teamsters and ALU are fighting for a contract--to stop this. This is why Amazon is fighting them--to keep work at a deadly speed.

"This isn't worth it, we need a general strike" <--no one you need to take seriously

I think it is fairly obvious that the visa revocations are the result of some kid feeding (incredibly sensitive) immigration info into Grok (or whatever) and asking "who's a criminal" because half of it is wrong and half is for fender benders or landlord disputes or whatever

Love this. Ad taken out in the student paper in 2001, meant to provoke people to think about invisible-but-ascribed minority status

Huge shoutout to EPI for updating the phrasing here. Not only is there inherent value in being precisely correct, it also leads to better analysis on potential solutions.

Trained six new organizers today (only two of whom I knew were showing). People want to do work, they just need an on-ramp.

I'm co-editing a Special Issue for Critical Studies in Media Communication on "Games & Storage" 📦 Guided by Zoe Sofia’s articulation of “container technologies” and how systems of storage are never neutral! Let's unlid Game Studies! Full CFP in 🧵👇Abstracts due April 22! Full drafts by June!

Update! UMass-Amherst's faculty senate is now on board!! Last night they passed their own resolution calling for two compacts: 1) of all public and land-grant higher ed in the country 2) of all public and private higher ed in Massachusetts Read and spread widely!! www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/ikin7...

These are conservative forecasts IMO. Grim. *NEW YORK FED PRESIDENT JOHN WILLIAMS COMMENTS IN PREPARED TEXT *WILLIAMS: EXPECT TARIFFS TO BOOST INFLATION THIS YEAR TO 3.5-4% *WILLIAMS: SEE UNEMPLOYMENT REACHING 4.5%-5% OVER THE NEXT YEAR *WILLIAMS: GDP GROWTH TO SLOW TO 'SOMEWHAT BELOW' 1% IN 2025

The word, unconfirmed but likely: targeted students were flagged by AI bots trawling law enforcement and immigration databases for signs of past legal infractions, however small. In sone cases, the bots appear to be making the same mistakes AI often makes — confusing names, hallucinating, etc.

Very informative chart from Washington Post

I see we've reached the "don't worry, the Finance Minister is a Western-educated former fund manager" stage of the emerging market crisis playbook. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

"The immigrant workers from Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti, and Venezuela have received a mixed reaction to their imminent deportation—hostility from some co-workers and an outpouring of support from their union (IUE-CWA Local 83761) and the local labor movement." labornotes.org/2025/04/kent...

One of the sources of rot running through our political, intellectual, and media institutions is the total triumph of the idea that democracy means outsourcing your morality and point of view to a fuzzily incoherent view of what's popular. Total rejection of the idea of morality as personal virtue.

So grateful that big balls will be there, presumably alone, perhaps with his ai girlfriend, to disburse any stimulus they throw at the 2026 recession

COMPARE: the results of fighting back to the results of not fighting back

Outsourcing the people who service bonds... What the hell lol
