Totally insufferable.

I deleted Instagram about 2 months ago from my phone and it’s the single best improvement I’ve made to my technology diet in years. The cost/benefit just doesn’t work for me anymore.

I had to get from Wandsworth Bridge to Brixton yesterday evening. I told my American half I could do it in 20 mins, which he said was impossible. Did it in 21 with public transport and bikes.

It does seem to me one of the operational aims here might be creating conditions for regime change.

Would this indicate a possible plan for regime change?

My own observations, after 10 years away:
- I’ve never seen so many English drink Guinness
- I’ve also noticed that people have started queuing at bars and I hate it
- Also, maybe just a London thing, why is everyone doing coke in the loo?

This may just be a London thing - but honestly pubs have never seemed busier to me. The zero alcohol thing is real though.

I try not to be too much of a doomster, but absolutely *nothing* they do leads me to believe they expect competitive elections any time soon.

This feels very, very bad to me. Norms are completely jettisoned and we’re not even six months in.

For this very reason I liked The Colonies. It has/had decent outdoor seating, and it was tucked away from the obvious SW1 pubs.

This uniquely combines my fear of cracking my knuckles and my hatred of hearing other people doing it.

My hunch is the Tories could elect a centrist leader (Hunt/Cleverly), and that would change lots of calculations very quickly.

Firmly of the view a second referendum now gets 60%. When not if.

They probably got turned away at the door of Boujis (Hermer’s brother owned it).

I’m reasonably certain this won’t actually come to pass. The noise being made by global employers is very significant.

I was going to mention this example. I just don’t know if global cities can run on a trust but verify model.

Has it always been so?

I would say, without wanting to minimise it, fare evasion is probably one of the top common urban crimes/issues I’ve witnessed travelling around Europe and the US. It’s pretty ubiquitous.

Exactly this. I’ve been trying to figure a way to say this for ages.

The question will be if the press are up to the job of sufficiently scrutinising a Reform manifesto come 2029. History would suggest that we don’t hold out too much hope.

They will insist they were pupils, so hell bent they are on pandering to the British sense of nostalgia.

Not massively comfortable with any of it (randoms filming others on the train, Ring doorbell cameras). But there is value in discussing whether new consumer tech is filling an important need, balanced against societal good. My suspicion is its primary good is for Meta’s next earnings call.
comment in response to

Yes, but there are also large sub-Reddits of people trying to figure out how to disable or disguise it which would suggest there is at least some consumer demand for inconspicuous recording sunglasses.
comment in response to

It also just further embeds a culture of recording which builds distrust and unease.

100%. Having to suddenly build policy expertise in new areas (regulation, trade) where we had previously benefitted from the combined knowledge/experience of EU institutions and other member states.
