on the other hand I was once on the path of enlightenment. Then, a notification buzzed my pocket. A post from jerry. I looked. I tripped and fell. Now I’m trapped for another turn around samsara but I get to be on the computer for it. Thank you jerey

Not gonna appeal to everyone, but I think we cede a lot of ground by never even striking up the conversation in certain environments, largely based on social signals that don’t actually map to political views all that reliably

I think the success of Buttigieg’s appearance on Andrew Schulz’s podcast (as well as other examples) demonstrates there’s demand for real, lengthy, relatively meaty political yap sessions, even among otherwise really low engagement audiences.

Definitely think we forgo casual social interaction probably too much of late, but this isn’t a great example of the constructive alternative. Earbuds or not, people can tell when someone’s being pushy & demanding—no one’s ever liked that.

You could probably spin up a new one rather quickly, but the lists are essentially irreplaceable, and the justification is so arbitrary there’s nothing to stop them from just hitting that one too. It would be a massive blow

Your mind brother. It must be a beautiful place. Not at all like the desolate wasteland in which my thought animal rattles

Everybody wants them to be some kind of interesting subculture, but I’m afraid a few dozen screen damaged weirdos who’ve exhumed a decrepit 19th century sexual ethic & want to add it to the constitution are just one in a parade of deranged Discord servers most people are too hydrated to care about

I have zero metaphysical commitments and don’t actually believe this but certain facts of the moment seem to beg for nonrational explanations. The Great Delusion

I don’t think quibbling about the framing is or ever has been terribly useful. There are many things opponents of the GOP might’ve done differently, but the millennial thinkpiece obsession with etymology, taxonomy, & the median voter in abstract probably don’t lift much of that weight.

Jerry you are absolved of sin. This is actually your job (not derogatory) and we all understand the need to pay the bills.

The entire current of class reductionism from a decade ago looks rung out now. Weird to see some of these guys still doing this.

His polling reversal on immigration in 2017 & now reveals that a lot of people want to vote for a guy who talks like their bloodthirsty uncle about immigrants, but doesn’t actually follow through on any of that.
People use his aimless gallop to create a collage of their personal republic of heaven

I’d even take so far as to argue that, to the extent they’ve grown their impression on culture, it’s been to make culture indisputably less cool

The posters code has changed. Blue checks are no longer an oppositional class with whom the humble workers of the content mines must struggle. They are a load bearing part of the fabric of our Online Destiny.
That’s right, chat. We’re doing Bluesky Gaullism

And also when people see the human cost of these policies, it undermines the underlying logic of the policies too. It happened with family separation in Trump 1.
This time though, we need to lock it in by prosecuting, convicting, & punishing those responsible to the maximum extent of the law

I’m reminded of a dude I knew in the Navy who regularly told me “if I had like 12 really smart people in a room, I could fix all the world’s problems.”
That summarizes the mind of basically every single one of this government’s most powerful dumbasses, including the big wet boy himself

It’s necessary imo. Last time, family separation killed his momentum on this stuff. This could do the same thing now. But if we fail again to treat criminals as criminals, to punish the violations of the constitution & our values, we may not get another chance.
