Great article this. Informed by lecturers who are actually setting and marking assessments. More like this please.

Co-director @miriambrett.bsky.social appeared on The Energy That Made Made Modern Scotland podcast with @ewangibbs.bsky.social and @dominicmhinde.bsky.social to discuss the steps Scotland should take to ensure the renewables revolution benefits everyone.

I have three students just finishing of finished their PhDs so am looking to recruit a new round. If you're interested in climate journalism or communication, or climate narrative in any way take a look at our internal scholarships. www.gla.ac.uk/colleges/soc...

I wanted to share this great piece by my colleague and good pal Karolina Benghellab Augustova on misreadings of Central Europe and the complex legacies of communism and fascism www.aljazeera.com/opinions/202...

The Energy That Made Modern Scotland is a new audio documentary which I made with @dominicmhinde.bsky.social. It explores how fifty years of oil and gas production and the more recent renewables revolution have transformed the Scottish economy and society and politics. You can listen to it here.

Left at Easter Road today by some Hearts fans. I do worry we're going to see the idea the far right have no support in Scotland horribly disproven at the next election. Loyalism is a fringe movement but there's enough of them to get Reform MSPs elected.

Posters like this have sprung up around Glasgow. They’re highly disingenuous as 1) North Sea oil and gas does not guarantee energy security and 2) the party the paper supports has broadly failed to develop renewables for public benefit or been serious about reforming housing policy.

A big congratulations to my now-former Phd student @silverscribed.bsky.social who was awarded his doctorate today after defending his thesis on the modernisation and rationalisation of the Glasgow Herald.

Does anyone have an actual email for a person in the Herald/Newsquest payroll dept? Been waiting for months to get a reply about payment for work done.

Another punt for this from my sick bed. We'll be doing more events around it once I'm back on my feet. open.spotify.com/show/7hW74e1...

Does anyone know an email for Washington Post opinion pitches? Got some ideas in the pipeline.

SCOOP: WaPo Opinion editor David Shipley is out. Jeff Bezos emails staff about a change to Post Opinions: "We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets."

Was trying to work out why almost everything I was seeing on meta platforms was complete junk and then remembered they now basically let you post whatever you like in the name of free speech/content farming.

To anyone who has followed Holyrood a while this should not come as a great surprise. Longstanding failure through multiple governments to make everything pull in the same direction.

I’m off sick just now, so if you are emailing me about either university or writery things I’ll likely not reply.

Extreme weather is destroying crops around the world, from hurricanes hitting bananas and yams in Jamaica, to drought ruining maize crops in Myanmar last year. We mapped a global snapshot of the impacts from media reports for @carbonbrief.org interactive.carbonbrief.org/crops-extrem... #dataviz

I long for the time when Donald Trump was just an overweight comic book American trying to build a golf course on an Aberdeenshire nature reserve.

A new #podcast that questions why Scotland’s energy abundance hasn’t resulted in a more prosperous or fairer society has been launched by our #energy and #sociology experts @ewangibbs.bsky.social @dominicmhinde.bsky.social www.gla.ac.uk/news/headlin...

Either a national disgrace or a fantastic form of regional development subsidy putting good boys in good jobs. Maybe both.

There isn't much good news around at the moment. But it turns out beavers create it in bucketloads. @timsmedley.bsky.social's first dispatch for Prospect, from somewhere near a Northamptonshire shopping centre, is the joy you didn't know you needed. www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/world/enviro...

Thanks to everyone who came to our launch last night. You can listen to the version on Spotify using this link

Perhaps it's subjective, but I'm seeing evidence of digital entshittification everywhere now. All the social media I was using is junk (instagram has declined faster than X even), and two click articles on the BBC today containing basic factual errors.

There is still time to register for Thursday's Energy That Made Modern Scotland podcast launch. Join @ewangibbs.bsky.social and @dominicmhinde.bsky.social in exploring how energy has transformed Scotland's economy, culture, and politics. Register here: tinyurl.com/4r7e6p2t

Whenever teams go to plymouth they look at the first team and think it will be easy, but Plymouth have some nuclear subs.
