My Dad joined the Coast Guard a couple of months before the Korean War started. His brother had been in the army during WWII, including fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and the assault on Germany's Western Wall.

While my family tree is chocked full of US military veterans going back to 1775. I have, so far, found only one relative who died while in service.
Salute to my 2nd Great Granduncle, Eli Moats, (Company F, 15th West Virginia Infantry) who died on Oct. 1, 1864 during the Battle of Winchester.
