BREAKING: In response to doctors' lawsuit, Judge John Bates, a George W. Bush appointee, orders CDC, NIH, and FDA to put back up websites and datasets cited by the doctors in their lawsuit as having been relied upon and pulled down without notice. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Listen to Miranda and Sarah. They are wise.

I'm getting PAID to buy a dozen eggs each week in February, thanks to an Ibotta deal and a little frugal hackery. The deal is good for any brand, including organic/free range. Learn more at donnafreedman.com/how-to-get-f...

I can find #PersonalFinance lessons anywhere. They're just a lot more fun in "One of Them Days," a hilarious and pointed film starring the fabulous Keke Palmer and SZA. The film gets bonus PF points for having payday loans be a major plot point. bit.ly/4aAgQP1

Listen to Miranda and use Eric's app. They both know what they're talking about.

Do giveaways work on here? I’ve got a stack of finished copies of DUST by @alisonstine.bsky.social that I’d love to send to some librarians or booksellers who love YA. If that’s you, give a shout! I’ll pick five folks! us.macmillan.com/books/978125...

My heroes.

If you're aged 18 to 24, you can get six months of #Amazon Prime for free, and for half-price after that. It comes with free GrubHub access, too. (And if you're receiving certain govt. benefits/meet income guidelines, you can get Prime even cheaper.) donnafreedman.com/how-to-get-a...

In my lifetime I’ve seen the concept of “work” change from something everyone wanted into something that’s to be minimized, if not avoided altogether. Everybody seems to want to be rich, to retire early, or not to have to work at all. donnafreedman.com/what-do-we-w... #Labor

Make peak summer produce prices last all year. Fun fact: Did you know you can dehydrate food in your air fryer? Freezing, canning and other tactics are easy with help from NCHFP, The Purposeful Pantry and others. www.moneytalksnews.com/slideshows/w...

Changing your finances can seem exhausting, or impenetrable. Or both. Use these starting points to save money while also (re)gaining a sense of control over your future. wealthofgeeks.com/turn-your-fi...

Moderation in all things -- yes, even frugality. I'm known for being parsimonious, but am upfront that some tips simply won't work for everyone. www.msn.com/en-us/money/... #frugality #minimalism

that explains why my mother took me off ritalin at 13 because "i didn't really need it anymore, probably" and boy did that make everything for the next fifteen years including university really interesting

Just did the math and this blows about a $20k hole in what I expected to make in 2024. I absolutely get it if you can’t afford to be a Patreon patron or paid subscriber to my newsletter. Under these circumstances, could I please ask you to boost this post though? That would help immensely—thanks!

I started working on this story two years ago, and I’m so excited to finally see it out in the world: Families Under Attack @sciam.bsky.social

It's snowing, AGAIN, and it's snowing hard. We give up, Mother Nature. Whatever it is you think we've done, we apologize for it.

If you've ever considered going to FinCon, you can grab yourself a 50%-off discount for the next couple weeks. The conference takes place from Oct. 23-26 in Atlanta. donnafreedman.com/save-big-on-...

hi bluesky! we’d love to invite the book community here to join us for the second annual #TransRightsReadathon. 🏳️‍⚧️ March 22-29; sign up at transrightsreadathon.carrd.co

A tip from someone with six animals who spent, unfortunately, 21k on vet bills last year. MANY prescriptions animals are put on (gabapentin comes immediately to mind) are human drugs. Paper prescriptions + the goodrx app for coupons will get you a lot of vet medicines for under ten bucks.

Listen to Captain Awkward. Captain Awkward is wise. Also, her cats are very handsome as well as hungry.

Man, the political candidate who runs on "I will make your phone usable again for receiving telephone calls without constant garbage interruptions from spammers and scammers" will win in a fucking landlside.

A day late for Valentine's Day, I share a little glimpse of my kind and caring partner. donnafreedman.com/reading-the-...

Are you an employee or an independent contractor? The Dept. of Labor will enforce new rules starting next month. A site called SideHusl has created a quiz to help you determine where you stand -- and you might be eligible for some back pay and/or damages. kathykristof.substack.com/p/mistreated...?

The city is running out of places to put the snow. Yay winter!

I'm giving away some "bean-to-bar" chocolate made right here in Alaska. Come win it! It's very good. I know this because I have extensively overresearched it. donnafreedman.com/giveaway-art...

Today's Alaska moment comes from our Buy Nothing Facebook group: Ask: Anyone have a shipping box the size of a refrigerator? I need to airfreight a dogsled to Denver. Response: I have large sturdy boxes from our sectional. I bet it will work. I can send pictures.” It did, in fact, work.

From my latest "Meet a Reader" Q&A: (Frugality) is a lifestyle. You can’t do just one hack and you’re set for life. It’s the mindset of, “How will this purchase benefit me? Will it change my life? Will it make me more happy?” tinyurl.com/ypnf7n27

Here's hoping, because I'm about to go file my personal and business taxes. FIND ME MONEY, KITTEH!

Alaska moment: Someone on our Buy Nothing Facebook group was giving away some pho spices. One applicant said, "I’d love to be considered - I have moose bones and have been wanting to experiment and make a pho broth with them."

Today's time-waster: The "cold" faucet on our city water source comes out at 43 degrees. How about everyone else? Is this typical?

In Fairbanks, it's 37 below. The expected HIGH today is 32 below. And the expected low is to be minus 45. Down here in the banana belt, it's a mere 12 below. Fairbanks makes me happier about my life choices.
