🏆🏅 Big Welsh League Cup win last night !! Hopefully more to come before the end of the season. Lucky to work with great players and staff !! Up the tins 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🟢⚪️ Alhamdullilah

I spent years trying to break into football analytics. No one would hire me despite my degree and internships. Then I discovered the hidden pathway that changed everything... 🧵

Shamrock Rovers ☘️ have been unreal this European campaign. Especially the fact they’ve had to sell a lot of talent in January. 👏

Tottenham’s goal difference is strange in comparison to their position in the league. +9 in 15th position and they have scored 9 goals more than Aston Villa. Whilst only conceding 2 more goals yet Villa sit in 8th position.

We’ve got Pep playing long ball before GTA 6

Yesterday, Southampton were thwarted in their attempts to appoint 777s Johannes Spors as their new sporting director. @SidPanayi and I have addressed the issue *Why did this happen? *What are the regulations? *Who could pass? andywatsongbe.substack.com/p/sporting-d...

Yesterday, all of the paid subscribers of the GBE Expert Hub received their first Pro GBE Bulletin. This is a weekly analysis that you will not get elsewhere. It is a truly unique offering. Tomorrow, this will be followed by a player report. Link is in the comments to join in!

One of the big set piece trends increasing the last season or two. Would be teams using a screen/block to allow a player freedom of movement or space to receive/attack the ball. Curious as to when the increase started. My guess (with no research) would be throw ins influencing other set pieces.

🟠🐺 Wolves FK routine - Takers hold up the ball to wait for the goalscorers run and probe the wall to leave space in behind - Three blockers in front of the goalscorer - Two players anticipating a rebound / second ball from the shot

⚪️🔵 Napoli (4-3-3) vs Genoa (4-2-3-1) Highlighting some of the rotations used by Napoli on the left side of the pitch leading to Anguissa’s goal. Use of a lot of inverted runs that pay dividends with the LW or LB keeping the width and stretch Genoa’s defensive shape.

That’s the problem for most fans, they don’t have knowledge of any processes internally. They only see the coach who is the figure head so he takes all the blame.

One of the most common mistakes teams who build-up with 3 CBs make is that their distance are way too big between them: Makes them easy to jump/press (square passes) and the cue for opposition’s wingers super easy to recognise. See it with regularity, even at the top levels.

Hiring multiple high profile staff into overlapping roles. Do you really need a Technical Director, Sporting Director, Director of Recruitment, and CEO (previously a Football Operations guy)? What do they do all day?

💯

Currently ending the first week of free content at The GBE Expert Hub as we look to showcase our snapshot player reports open.substack.com/pub/andywats...

🇬🇧 Football recruitment ⚠️ - A must read for anyone involved in football recruitment in the UK. Going into detail on the basics needed to obtain a work permit. Whilst at the end of the article briefly touching on the ESC system.

🧵I couldn’t spend the week talking about Scottish U19 talents and not end on Lennon Miller, could I? It seems every couple of days a new club is linked to Motherwell’s star man, what will his next move be? Let’s talk about him 👇🏻

Scouts have always relied on their trusty black book with pen and paper—the traditional way. While this method can still be effective, today's reality demands a way to share, revisit, and analyse insights. This is where digital scouting tools prove more effective

😎🔴⚪️

🔴⚪️ Arsenal corner routine (3rd goal vs Sporting) - Arsenal players starting position deep to screen closer to goal line - Great delivery - Gabriel (dominant and committed runner) - Free man on the back post anticipating free run / 2nd ball

@distancecovered.bsky.social

🔴⚫️ Man Utd Key points in the build up to the goal: - Ipswich using a 4 man press from the front - Middle CB jumps to midfield - Overload centre / force Ipswich narrow / cut passing lanes / - GK extra man & create width - Fernandes position behind overrun midfield / takes marker to create space

Personally would love to see Atalanta stay up there until the end of the season, but goals against record might have something to say about that

Ahhh, the left footed RWB. How many times will we see this move tried today?

Great service @andywatsonsport.bsky.social is providing, excited to see it grow!

ICYMI mrktinsights.com/index.php/20... Changing or not changing coach is a huge decision. Here is an approach that clubs could look at using.

Curious to see how dogmatic Amorim is and if it helps or harms Man Utd. I thought one of the interesting tales was the brief talk on the different types of wing backs and when to utilise each.

Part 2 of the short series on 🇬🇲 Gambian players in the UK 🇬🇧 One Notts County and Chorley fans may appreciate

Conceição & De Ketelaere are interesting names to see in the list.

Part One of a short Two piece series.

Fantastic deal if it’s gets done !
