I realized you can unpin the Discover feed here and it makes this several times better "You control the buttons you press" etc etc but it's easier to not get distracted with algorithmic crap if you don't have the option at hand in the first place

I prepared red cabbage cream and I’m rather unimpressed by the recipe I followed but it makes an excellent sauce for ravioli

I realized while being thrown by a knee drop seai nage that most if not all my long lasting internet friendships were born in niche forums or microblogging websites that no longer exist and I yearn for those Massive general purpose apps or sub communities don’t hit the same way

I often use social media to complain about things so here are some pictures of my last trip to balance things out.

When I added comments support to string_to_quoted etc adding more passes to the AST to normalize it for the formatter was ok because it only affected the formatter, but changing the parser to integrate comments into the official AST is trickier to get right *and* fast

I got to the point where it’s hard to keep my desk clean and tidy. The printer takes a lot of space and I don’t have enough space for a drawer, it’s hard enough to manage the cables too. Time to move to a bigger place I guess, these 33m^2 served me well until now.

Getting a NAS or something to back up my stuff and maybe selfhost something has been in the back of my mind for a while now, but I’m not sure if I should get a prebuilt unit or build a rackable one myself

I wanted to watch Stand Alone Complex, some of the Ghost in the Shell content is on Apple TV+, I recalled I have 3 free months from my apple product purchase so I activated it. I have to purchase the movies separately from the subscription anyways. Piracy is always the moral choice.

Seeing the same rotten discourse here in the discovery feed and in the other site. I guess the honey moon phase is over.

That you need to download a third party app to set a custom ringtone in iOS is so moronic I can’t even

I just came back from a trip that was supposed to be 4300km but ended up being around 8000km across 2 countries and full of hikes. I’m destroyed in a good way.

I restored an Olympus VG-160 digital camera and I can take 2009 style photos again

I'm happy I got a Nikon P5200 for cheap, I'm not happy to see how expensive the lenses are

v0.6.0 of parameterized_test is out now, adding attribution to the stacktrace of failing tests to show which set of parameters caused the failure. This massively improves the debuggability of these tests. Many thanks to @wojtekmach.bsky.social and @dorgan.ar for tips on the implementation!

Learning how to pronounce an english word is like learning kanjis.

The information around manufacturing niche things is quite sparse. I'm trying to get details about hard enamel pins and I found some, but it's still hard to find info about how deep is the pocket supposed to be, how to bake the enamel paint, etc Most resources are like "it takes trial and error"

Now I need to figure out how to cut them without my landlord kicking me out for loud noises

This is an official mail from government agency

I got some aluminum sheets to machine, there's some things I need to figure out and reduce play in the z axis but it's promising. I'll also need a larger facing bit, and proper enamel paint instead of cheap acrylic paint.

Months ago I was disappointed at a wooden relief map maker lt wanting to make a larger version of a map I wanted, I just now realize I can make it myself now that I have a CNC router

I get tge reason for using Common Era and Before Common Era jut nothing beats facetiously saying "in the year of our Lord"

Now we're talking

It started raining when I arrived to the hills so I couldn't hike but at least I got to take pictures after it was over. Better luck tomorrow

I got a CNC router and I spent more time snapping the cable roller to the frame than I'd like to admit

This used to be 90% discount I guess things aren't looking that bleak now

Dorgan's Rule number 1 of macros: write more macros Being afraid of them only makes things worse. It's a tool from the language, learn it. If you wrote enough macros, you may stop.

Writing an OSS library is fun, but receiving PRs is a reminder that what you did is useful to people and it feels good in a way that I find hard to describe

I got to play Half Life: Alyx and the way it coveys sheer scale in the Combine's monolithic structures is unmatched to any flat screen experience I've got so far. Having to physically look up or down gives a totally different feeling, like it does irl with mountains or monuments
