This is Alvin. He is 19 years old but still likes to be held like a baby. Because he still is a baby. 13/10 #SeniorPupSaturday

If I hadn't already cancelled my Washington Post subscription, this would've done it: Washington Post Cancels Ad From Groups Calling for Trump to Fire Musk www.nytimes.com/2025/02/17/b...

Read this as national basset day, and am now disappointed.

An orphaned wolf pup named Amora has been paired with a rescue puppy named Slinky. Amora needs socialization to develop properly and Slinky is happy to provide it. Sedgwick County Zoo shared that "Slinky’s playful nature is helping her grow into the wolf she is meant to be." 13/10 for both

As always, @ezrakleinbot.bsky.social with a great analysis. Don’t Believe Him www.nytimes.com/2025/02/02/o...

Hey, there. It's #kidlitchat night here on Bluesky. We #Kidlit folk will gather at 9 PM Eastern/6 PM Pacific and spend an hour chatting. (Hence the name!) I hope you can join us this week (or any Tuesday at the same time. Or all the Tuesdays). And I look forward to chatting with you soon!

I finally launched my own newsletter! I'm happy to be albeit write what I want when I want. And to put a lot of short in-the-moment essays that used to be on FB at this site instead. Please subscribe! meditations-in-an-emergency.ghost.io/welcome-to-m...

timeline cleanser:

I just installed @bookshop-org.bsky.social's e-book app and looking forward to being able to download books in a way that supports my local bookstores! bookshop.org/ebooks

Psst... wolves are essential. Pass it on 🐺

Also, on social media for key information such as this. You're welcome. Ok, time go get to #writing now.

Also, following #booksky and @weratedogs.com is keeping me on as much of an even keel as I can be on right now.

Follow @jbendery.bsky.social for excellent coverage on inner workings on what's happening in Congress!

This is a wonderful, fun time travel read!

Good news on a new option for e-books!

"This February there are more than six dozen free writing contests for short fiction, novels, poetry, CNF, nonfiction, and plays. Prizes range from $100,000 to publication. None charge entry fees." publishedtodeath.blogspot.com/2025/01/80-f... #Writers #Authors #WritingCommunity #Writing

Good morning. Puppy for you.

remember, the blitzkrieg is intended to make you feel like there is nothing you can do about it; that’s the only reason to go forward in this haphazard and sloppy manner all in the first week and the choice of that strategy tells you they are afraid you *will* do something about it

If you want to read a new book coming out but don't want to buy it, a great thing you can do is ask your local library to order it. The more requests they get, the more likely they are to acquire it and then lots of people will get to read it who othewise wouldn't.

Wish I could be there! Sacramento folks, don't miss this great opportunity to learn from the best!

I'm so sad about Books Inc Berkeley, I needed a puppy fix. Here is one for you, too.

My beloved Books Inc in Berkeley is closing Feb 9 as they file for Chapter 11. I've found many wonderful reads there, had book events there, and spent many happy hours browsing. I will absolutely continue to support @booksinc.bsky.social at other locations but will miss my neighborhood store!

Congrats, @ninaschuyler.bsky.social Looking forward to reading it!

Author folk, follow @jvnla.bsky.social for great insights on wriitng and publishing!

Same. When I start a new book, I wonder, "how do people write books," even tho' I've written six already.

Anyone have a debut book coming out this spring? Tell me about it — it’d be nice to hear about something nice! Your first book only happens once, friend!

In the midst of all the bad news, here is something uplifting and hopeful. #seaotter #ElkhornSlough #Marinelife #Conservation www.usatoday.com/story/news/n...

Today I had to return a book I wasn’t finished #reading to the library because someone had it on hold. Reader, I was the one who had it on hold.

Here is some morning inspiration to send out your work, writers. And, in my case, to finish my work so I can send it! #writing

I don't know what part of my brain needs to hear this, but I'm allowed to use two bowls, one for my yogurt and one for my muesli instead of reusing and having muesli stuck in my yogurt

Sounds about right!

Your monthly reminder: Keep writing. When no one cares, persist. When things appear to be crumbling, keep at it. When it's difficult, push through. When you feel alone, listen to the stories in your blood. Just write. The world needs you to tell your truth through your words.

If you know of any excellent small press books coming out in January 2025, I would love to hear about it.

#PoetrySky

Pretty please!

Glad to see @weratedogs.com is here!

A great opportunity for #publishing folks and aspiring publishing folks. The Robin Seaman Award is open for applications!

Have decided to move my newsletter from Substack to Ghost after reading posts by @gruber.foo @anildash.com & others. Just tested exporting directly from @obsidian.md to Ghost...super-easy. Thanks @jridpath.bsky.social for the nudge.

Grateful for all of the authors of the books I loved as a kid, inspiring me to write my own #kidlitchat

There's a #Kidlitchat at 9PM Eastern/6PM Pacific tomorrow right here on Bluesky. You might wonder, is 24 hours really enough lead time for you to get into the mood for the chat? And the answer is, you were BORN for this chat. (Also, no lead time is really needed. But shhhhh.). See ya there!

Hi Writers, let's get writing in the new year. Join me online for #GetUnstuck in January at #WritingWorkshops. You love to write, or perhaps you find it torture. Either way, you wish you were doing more of it. writingworkshops.com/collections/...
