I saw this tonight - absolutely stunning

A6: Yes, it is a no brainer. There needs to be upskilling to enable teachers, which enables students. Opportunities such as Participatory Action Research in classroom spaces that allow for genuine interactions and ideas to occur are important, but need skilling prior to. #eduskyAU

Qu 6 - Final Question - Should there be more professional learning, staff, or student input about how to design classroom spaces? #EduSkyAU @eduskyteam.bsky.au

I always find it interesting when teachers don't allow students to reconfigure desks when working in a space. I often wonder what drives their decisions in saying 'no'. #eduskyAU

A5: For me, it is about function over aesthetics. For the students, they need to feel that their voices are heard, whether acted upon or not (dependent on many things). Students don't need to make all of the design decisions, but they are capable to offering their perspectives, even young. #eduskyAU

Qu 5 What allowances do you give students in designing the classroom space? #EduSkyAU @eduskyteam.bsky.au

An interesting thought - 'Insta' worthy classrooms comes across as the recognition of how online platforms can drive performative designs. #eduskyau

A4: I have autonomy in that I can rearrange the furniture in the space, I can make decisions that affect the day to day use of the space. I cannot choose all of the furniture or the amount (quota), or whether the furniture suits what I need it for. So, I have some autonomy. #eduskyAU

Qu 4 How much autonomy or agency do you have with your classroom space or furniture? #EduSkyAU @eduskyteam.bsky.au

I always giggle when I see new classroom spaces that have never had an educator run their eyes over the design. There's something to be said about this process. #eduskyau

Welcome to the chat @mattoman71.bsky.social Great to see you on here. #eduskyau

A3: Edwards (2005/2007) refers to constraints as part of nested agency, where we negotiate - in this case space and the use within. Schools are full of constraints, from policies, procedures and history. Each plays its role in how spaces are used and how they can be altered. #eduskyAU

Qu 3 What are some of the constraints you face when designing your classroom space? #EduSkyAU @eduskyteam.bsky.au

Keen to hear from other educators about their learning spaces. Jump on to the #eduSkyAU chat happening now.

Qu 2 How do 'Insta' classrooms influence your classroom space design decisions? #EduSkyAU @eduskyteam.bsky.au

A1: My first go to is what is present and what is available. How can I move and create flow in a space. #EduSkyAU

Ok, let's make a start. Qu 1 What is the first thing you think when you enter a new learning space (classroom)? #EduSkyAU @eduskyteam.bsky.au

A little bio - primary teacher on the South Coast of NSW. Just finished my doctorate in agency and classroom design. Keen to learn from others, so please join in. #eduskyAU @eduskyauteam.bsky.social
