I’ve been to Big Tesco. 2 things that need a Panorama Investigation - no satsumas - no daffodils My god- Starmer’s Britain. It’s an outrage

Studying humour with KS3 readers, comparing literary devices through time (yes, I’m reading the latest DOAWK!) I’m struggling to see the humour of dad simulating slitting mum’s throat or making a noose to hang himself, in front of the kids in this book! 😳 #booksky #readersofbluesky #schoollibrarian

Lads, I have a new favourite bookshop! Barn Owl Books in Malmesbury - think sumptuous carpets, gorgeous nooks and the overwhelming smell of books 😍 I want to move in! #booksky

Well done for making it to the end of January. Stop whatever you're doing and read a book to reward yourself. If you don't have a book, then buy one from an indie bookshop, that way you'll be making TWO people happy.

you will be so happy that you waited a little longer for what matches your worth

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Contemporary ghost story, a bit clichéd, but a fun read! Book 1 of a trilogy. #booksky

⭐️⭐️⭐️.75/5 I’m working my way through LJ’s backlist. Being one of her earlier titles this one is quite different to her usual themes. I loved the London family and all their idiosyncrasies, even the rather strange Jervase was really quite loveable. I chuckled away at the wry humour 😎 #booksky

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Took my time dipping in & out of this book. Great clarity of info & useful templates for budgeting, should you need them. Advice has become dated in a very short space of time. I won’t be keeping it to refer to or revisit at any point. app.thestorygraph.com/reviews/ae59...

‘Everyone has an impact’: how to start reducing your environmental footprint

Hoping to get both of these wrapped up over the next few days! 📖 What’s everyone else reading right now on #booksky? NB: I don’t get much traffic so not anticipating a sizeable response, just putting it out there to see if I can accrue more bookish people to follow & see what they’re reading 🤓

I don't know about the rest of y’all but when I was in junior high there were (not library) books with "naughty" parts that we passed around. You can't control young people's curiosity, but you can help them make good choices and many librarians are experts at recommending books for all ages.

Underwhelming & verbose, baffled it’s Waterstones Bk of 2024 (IMHO) Pace uneven & clumsy Character dev strong but unremarkable Not a thriller! I read 416p to arrive at the delightful last chapter Fat phobia & misogyny key themes, & butter obvs! I waited for something to happen. It didn’t. #booksky

Read. Read books. Reading books is resistance. Buy. Buy books. Buying books is resistance. Share. Share books. Sharing books is resistance. Celebrate Celebrate books. Celebrating books is resistance.

If you're not on StoryGraph yet, not only is it a great alternative to GoodReads but it also generates some great reading stats graphics like this one. But what I really appreciate is the effort to gather reader-reported content warnings for each book. Great feature, and very helpful! #BookSky 💙📚

I'm pretty sure everyone I frequently interacted with on Twitter is primarily here now

If you’re afraid that books might change someone’s thinking, you’re not afraid of books, you’re afraid of thinking.

I love reading all the work by an author in the order it was published because you can see what was on their mind at certain points in their life and how their attitudes change and that’s a wonderful thing, you see them working through their feelings on a topic as it starts to effect them more

I walk around like everything is fine, but deep down all I can think about is my current read and what's going to happen next

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 /5 I was close to DNF at 25% 🙂‍↔️ Heavy on ice hockey 🥱 Character dev was 5/5 🌟 TW: rape, which made me 😡 Strong women rep 💪🏽 The ending destroyed me 😭 Overall, superbly written and brutally honest. The ⛸️🏒 was essential to the character building! #booksky app.thestorygraph.com/books/2bbe23...

Just a reminder that the books we call "children's books" are really books written for an audience that includes children, but excludes absolutely no-one at all. They are BOOKS FOR EVERYONE - and you can never, ever be too old to read them, and to love them!

This debate over whether or not audiobooks count as reading has made me realize that lots of people view reading as a kind of chore. “I got more reading points than you!” It’s weird and sad.

The Life of Adaline is a lovely, lovely film! Perfect for a Sunday evening, and reminded me very much of The Invisible Life of Addie Larue, a fabulous book by V E Schwab #lifeofadaline #amazonprime

Ok #booksky, let’s talk. 👎🏼Goodreads, owned by Amazon, fuels its monopoly on books. 👍🏼StoryGraph, a Black woman-owned platform, offers an ethical, ad-free alternative with mood-based recommendations, user control over data, and a focus on inclusivity. Support diversity over corporate power!
