With the death of Flash and the adoption of Figma—not to mention a lot of our other tools—we strongly incentivize very boring designs with no real personality. If all Apple's glass UI does is convince designers it's OK to have fun again... It's a win.

When I started using TypeScript I found it annoying. Then I realized it protected me from a whole host of bugs and made certain parts of the workflow easier (what does this func take, again?). Now I don't like working without it. I kept waiting for that feeling with Tailwind. It never happened.

I need to convince @romanmars.bsky.social to make a 99% Invisible hoodie so I can wear it while I'm riding my motorcycle. Some people will think it's a comment on how cars don't pay attention. I'll know it's about an amazing podcast. ...And how cars don't pay attention.

So I make myself a coffee every morning but I don't really get the chance to drink coffee when I'm out and about. Today I got a coffee from a really good cafe that makes coffee with the same beans I buy. I think... I think I make a pretty good coffee. Someone come over so I can make the coffee.

Today on reasons #Tailwind is trash: Try and style a <progress> element. Go on. I'll wait. "Well if you install this plugin..." I shouldn't have to add another dependency for what should be native behavior. "You can just use a DIV..." I shouldn't have to rebuild native elements just to style them.

When to a pub in the city with my coworkers, ordered a pasty and some chips and the gent comes out and plops a bottle of brown sauce and goes, "In case this is your speed." My guy, that is very much my speed. My coworkers had never had it before. It went down quite well.

For those of us who remember the ways of the Olde Internet, we do not feed the trolls. We starve them and turn away as they wither into flaccid obscurity.

I have a mighty need to inform anyone who reads this of two equally important things: 1. That @bodegacats.bsky.social exists. 2. That "bodega cat" has the same number of syllables and spoken rhythm as "mahna-mahna". Do with this information what you will. (Do doo be-do-do...)

Me: Why isn't this working? I'm [doing the thing] right... [2 hours later] Me: Oh. It was [exceedingly simple thing that takes 15 seconds to fix]. Frick. If this hasn't happened to you you're not a software developer.

Shout out to @scottwiener.bsky.social and @jessearreguin.bsky.social for putting this forward: sfist.com/2025/06/16/s... We'll see if the rest of the CA state senate cares as much about Californians as they clearly do.

Me: All I want is a 32" 4K@165hz monitor with - DCI-P3 coverage greater than 95% - Proper HDR - Delta E < 2 - No risk of burn-in - No artifacting or ghosting Is that so hard? Monitor companies: ...YES. Me: But I waaaaaaants it! Everything I look at has some unacceptable compromise...

Dev's are weird. It feels like most of us fall into 1 of 3 camps: 1: "I must be on the latest hyped thing. There is nothing else. Everything else is bad." 2: "I might try the hype thing but I'll only adopt it once it's mature and reached a tipping point." 3: "My stack is 15+ years old." I'm 2.
