I help people understand things and change them, with data. Views here my own. "I can't quite work out whether you're a tremendously silly man, a tremendously serious man or, as I suspect, a rather unholy combination of both."

I find it very hard to believe that anyone tested a grizzly bear as a toilet paper substitute, and it’s even harder to believe that they then lived to report the results.

I’m not sure I agree with everything that Ben, the underground rewilding activist, says here, but I’m sure he’s right when he says “You don't want to be caught with a box of beavers in the boot”. (And OP does raise an important concern. Kidnapping beavers from somewhere they’re happy is Bad.)

More as a bookmark for myself than anything else, but on the headlines I am hopeful the ONS may be in a turnaround phase for what has been a distressing period of decline.

Well done everyone, you've all done really well this week! It's been a tough week in many ways but you are tough cookies and have made it through to the weekend, yet again. Really well done, and all the best for the weekend.

This is brilliant, a random English placename generator you can run yourself, online. Including rude names toggle. Long-term friends and followers will know I did something similar a good way back now: dougclow.org/2017/07/17/r... But I did not do the extra work to make it available online.

Have to say I thought there’d be more outrage about the porn checks coming in next month than there has been. Either there’s way fewer porn users than I thought, or they’re more relaxed about being identified by pornmongers than I thought, or they simply haven’t realised in any great number.

Low vaccination rates might be a product of NHS incompetence and inflexibility more than vaccine hesitancy: www.bmj.com/content/389/... ...

This is cute and heartwarming and funny … and also it is slightly perturbing that bears were able to escape their enclosure and it’s being treated as entertainment (which it is) rather than a major breach of safety (which it may or may not have been).

Shout out for excellent customer service to The Map Shop of Upton on Severn. www.themapshop.co.uk Old school website so easy to use, and the map arrived quickly and for a very reasonable price. It is an exciting map for planning my summer holiday. You don’t have to be the Map Men to love a good map.
