Massive encroachment by Bezos into The Washington Post’s opinion section - makes clear dissenting views will not be published I still have not felt encroachment on my journalism on the news side, but if Bezos tries interfering with the news side I will be quitting immediately and letting you know

WaPo opinion is going to become a second tier WSJ Opinion section. Strange decision for the paper of record in Washington, D.C. I always felt the Post was there to hold federal agencies to account, not shill for a set of political principles.

Ladies and gents, it's time for our weekly selection of the best morsels from the internet: Monday in Brief! Respond to this thread with 5 points on how you're aiding the Neo-Brandeisian movement, or we will consider you as having resigned. brandeisianbrief.substack.com/p/monday-in-...

A big problem for the "Biden created inflation" Jason Furman types is how big of a percent of demand comes from the richest 10% of Americans. The problem with economics that doesn't consider power dynamics (in this case vast income inequality) is that they miss the forest from the trees.

Musk just sent an email to the federal work force, with a subject line "What did you do last week?" "Please reply to this email with approx. 5 bullets of what you accomplished this week and cc your manager," it said.

1/ Dear everyone who just went grocery shopping and saw this, There’s a person in government who could flick his pen and investigate what the hell is going on with eggs. No, not your congressman. His name is Andrew Ferguson. He’s the new head of the @FTC. Has he done that? No

If only there were some sort of 237 year old parchment, some kind of charter of laws if you will, that outlined those guardrails!

Remember those technologists I hired using an authority designed to bring private sector tech talent to gov, legally? They were looking into big tech. Trump just fired them. All of them. consumerfinance.gov/about-us/blog/…

Chair Khan enforced the antitrust laws without considering things like ESG or DEI, because that's what Congress told antitrust regulators to do. So ask yourself, "Does the culture war stuff protect consumers and fair competition?" Or is this all just a distraction to cover inaction?

Regarding “reporting hidden DEI” - when I worked at the FTC right wing groups would FOIA us for all sorts of slang terms for various race or sexual preference groups. I always found it funny, them hunting for secret DEI emails by searching urban dictionary for slang terms for white people

BREAKING: The FTC is suing John Deere, $DE, for using unfair practices to drive up repair costs.

Start your week with us! Today's Monday in Brief features: @halsinger.bsky.social @douglasfarrar.bsky.social @dalie.bsky.social & more! Check it out: brandeisianbrief.substack.com/p/monday-in-...

Did Musk just cancel Trump’s inauguration party??? @samsteindc.bsky.social

I guess size does matter...?

Merry Musk Christmas Shutdown everyone!

GOP extremists want House Democrats to raise the debt ceiling so that House Republicans can lower the amount of your Social Security check. Hard pass.

FTC Chair Lina Khan with yet another dub, banning junk fees on short term rentals and event tickets.

Let’s gooooooooooooooo.

NEW: The FTC issues long-awaited rules prohibiting ticket sellers and hotels from hiding "junk fees," promising to punish those that fail to disclose service charges and other add-ons prominently www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

Hoyas, imo

OK sure, I could have just called my cable TV loving conservative in-laws in Florida directly, but going on Fox Business to talk about FTC merger enforcement was a more fun way to tell them what I have been up to. www.foxbusiness.com/video/636591...

The average rent in the United States has about doubled since 2005.

And just like that, the Kroger/Albersons deal is dead. progressivegrocer.com/albertsons-t...

Statement from the FTC: "Today's win protects competition in the grocery market, which will prevent prices from rising even more. This statement win makes it clear that strong, reality-based antitrust enforcement delivers real results for consumers, workers, and small businesses."

Huge get for Roosevelt!!

Excited and honored to be taking the helm at Roosevelt Institute. Our economy should work for the many, not just the few. The Roosevelt community has been instrumental in the fight for shared prosperity, and I can't wait to jump back in in this new capacity. Let's get to work!

Tune in for what the comments are describing as the "perfect blunt rotation" Khan will be on at ~4pm ET

It's a hilarious strategy to accuse @linakhanFTC of being beholden to big business. But yep, I just read that hilarious take. I'm dizzy from that spin. cc: @douglasfarrar.bsky.social #Antitrust #Econ

Cole Palmer 🧊 🥶 panenka This guy is something else #CFCTOT

Remember, Tulsi Gabbard claimed Assad didn’t use chemical weapons, it was “the rebels.” Her confirmation hearing will be brutal, if she even makes it to there

BREAKING: Senators from both parties have asked the FTC to look into Draftkings and Fanduel, arguing that the companies may illegally coordinate to stifle competition in violation of federal law.

Don't miss @michaelpettis.bsky.social and @sophiabesch.bsky.social discussing how to fix the broken global trade system. The topic has huge implications for the next administration⤵️ www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdsw...

I don't agree with Billy Long's politics but he is funny as hell. He once walked into a staid bipartisan briefing and yelled (for no reason) "fire in the hole!!" And then introduced himself to the expert leading the brief with "I'm Billy Long, people say I'm quiet and highly intellectual."

The headline invokes crypto, but this piece I wrote says more than just "Trump will be good for crypto." More fundamentally, this is about Trump seeming to reward his elite Bay Area megadonors who've pushed an ideology about tech *that does not tolerate doubt or skepticism about Silicon Valley.*

FTC slaps down a San Jose-based facial recognition startup for claiming its product was trained on millions of faces & free from race and gender bias, when the actual facts supported neither claim. ht @dell.bsky.social www.ftc.gov/news-events/...

As a flack you think about audience targeting... X feels like it's Elon/Crypto stans and right oriented men? Chinese bots? Whoever is paying for the check marks, basically "To the extent it’s a place where anyone can get a message out, it’s on narrow new terms for a narrow new audience. "
