He has never acted rationally. But rational people kept constructing rational edifices to explain his behavior.

Whether it’s Elon Musk calling Peter Navarro an idiot, or Peter Navarro calling Elon Musk an idiot, both men are in fact idiots.

If Bukele decided to liquidate the inmates shipped to El Salvador by the US, is there anything in US law which could stop it? Would the US govt have an interest in stopping it? If not, then why couldn't the US outsource extra-legal killings to another country? www.thebulwark.com/p/concentrat...

“What happened? You helped elect Donald Trump you fucking moron” - @timmiller.bsky.social

"History—the sort Trump is working to erase—teaches us that when a government becomes tyrannical, the people have rights, and courage, and the will to band together against the odds to overthrow tyrants, whether kings, Confederates, or tech oligarchs."

Meanwhile, South Korea has successfully impeached their president www.nytimes.com/live/2025/04...

Internal ideological and political food fights are common in Washington, but the national security adviser usually doesn’t have to stand by while his staff gets turfed on the say-so of an online troll. www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/...

that's how you conduct an impeachment

One of the very few who gets it.

"If the president of the United States says we're lying, and I have the truth, I'm going to publish the truth”: Jeffrey Goldberg on The Atlantic's decision to publish the Signal chats following the Trump administration’s initial response to the leak. theatln.tc/WOm72fnu

Here is my best guidance for action, rendered beautifully by the great John Lithgow. I first published these lessons more than eight years ago, in late 2016. They open the twenty chapters of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century." snyder.substack.com/p/twenty-les...

Many on the DOGE team are from Elon Musk’s world in Silicon Valley. We’ve mapped out a list of people affiliated with DOGE, including creating a searchable table with each member, their corporate history, and the agencies they’ve been connected to.

Trump’s approval is dropping. But it needs to be much lower. I argue Trump needs to be at a 32% approval rating to truly blunt his political efficacy. @billkristolbulwark.bsky.social and I discuss how it can be done on today’s episode of Bulwark Sunday.

"Fight the authoritarians on everything. If the stock market drops, scream about it. Because it’s their fault. When a kid dies of measles—their fault. Attack them every day, on whatever the latest thing is. Turn 'flood the zone' against them."

I don't trust writers who say they love writing. Sounds fake. I spend 99.9% of the time dragging words from my soul in a mood of disgruntled suffering and discontent.

Everyone should read this. time.com/7269604/el-s...

They don’t get it. None of the nominally powerful institutions in this country get it.

This is how law firms should do it.

Stand against oppressors. Stand against those who would exploit you, and turn you against each other for their own gain. Do not turn a blind eye to oppression and iniquity in your own backyard, but extend solidarity for all fighting for honor and a righteous glory.

This article’s approach is super gullible and as far as I can tell not in an ironic way. /1 www.nytimes.com/2025/03/20/u...

The cops have chosen sides. Remember that.

"Many county sheriffs have heard Trump’s comments as a summons. Steeped in right-wing radicalism, they are working to realize his dark vision on the local level, and their efforts are going to increasingly affect everyday policing."

There is no plan

Having written a kind of first draft of that history myself, voters have even more to answer for

Remember they’re autocrats but they’re also clowns

“I want to dwell briefly on another line from Larkin’s poem: ‘Our children will not know it’s a different country.’ The damage being done, the scope of the cruelty and tragedy, is hard to take in. It is the sort of stain that should be remembered. Will it be?” www.thebulwark.com/p/we-wont-kn...

Somebody got carpel tunnel syndrome working up that Bannon shot. Looks like a PS5 rendering!

"I used to think that we were better than this. Now, I am not sure." The people we're leaving behind may be more than not sure. ICYMI, because this is still important, and those people haven't gone away.

Every few years (as a federal worker), I had to take required training in preservation of government documents and records. This was definitely not in the training

JD Vance said DOGEbro Marko Elez shouldn't have his life "ruin[ed]" b/c of racist tweets. But "Elez's life had not been 'ruined,'" as @jvl.bsky.social notes. He just lost a govt job he'd briefly had. And if losing a govt job is a life-ruining event, just think how many lives DOGE/Musk have ruined.

Get in loser, we're tanking the economy

Maybe putting elections up for sale was not a good way to prevent greed and corruption in government.

This is effective.

I haven't been able to bring myself to read much of the Times or Post since the election. The framing of these stories illustrates why. Headlines this bad just shut me down as a potential reader.
