At the end of year award ceremonies, our kids' principal does a Trump-style thumbs up in each photo he takes with a student holding their certificate. Yesterday my kiddo wiggled enough that the principal had to hold the certificate and couldn't do the thumbs up. I was so proud.

Appellate judges: Complain they're too busy Also appellate judges: Will write a separate opinion because they don't like a citation style

Happy Confederate Surrender Day! At the battle of Gettysburg, Minnesota soldiers captured Virginia’s battle flag and Minnesota still has it. Virginia keeps asking for it back and each governor tells them to get stuffed. www.twincities.com/2017/08/20/m...

"We note that other jurisdictions have rejected the idea that one can establish a justifiable, reasonable, or legitimate expectation of privacy through criminal conduct." This is too clever by half—at least if the evidence of criminal conduct came from the challenged search itself.

Society should not entrust the power of life or death to people who can't shoot straight

Response back— "Dear reader, it is clear no one as ifs you. Please get a hobby you as if. It might make you as ifable."

"The line is absolute." 💯

The Harris County District Attorney's Office mis-coded hundreds of cases, causing defendants charged with low-level offenses to be convicted of higher, worse offenses, until an intern discovered the error. The DA's Office noticed defendants—and then suspended the intern.
