Proper runners: any top tips for mid long run fueling/hydration? I’m only now starting to do consistent long runs (10k+) and need to think about what to do. Any top tips?

Will someone please make me go for a run? I’ve been putting it off for *hours*.

Today in: Am I angry or am I hungry? The answer was: hungry.

Missed our abstract submission deadline but still want to present your work at Resident Doctors Conference 2025? 🖼️ We are re-opening submissions until 26 March 2025, with some key differences for late submissions. Find more info 🔗 https://buff.ly/3DH4ckK #anaesthesia

Today was a busy ITU day where a lot of work ended with the same net number of tubes as we started with. Just… rearranged. Also it turns out you can just buy the Valentine’s Day Colin the Catepillar and no one checks if you’re in fact single and going to eat it on the 12th.

Whoops I fell and booked another skiing holiday…. What a shame.

I’m meant to be going and doing a Fartlek run. Instead I’m still in ny pjs and ordering lamps.

When the fellow is really not optimistic about the ‘we’ll be finished by five’ case.

Dealing with the Sunday scaries by… signing up for a 10k and spending too much money on a a Runna subscription?

Is it very middle aged to look and a lamp and think: ‘it’s lovely but it’d be a nightmare to dust.’?

A few days ago I commented something on a YouTube video making a loose joke about something anaesthetic related and have since been accused of lying by multiple people. Social media is nuts these days. They’re probably all 12yrs old.

This week has been a Week. Finally feel like I can take. Deep breath. So tonight I’m having sausage pasta with too much cheese and chicken wine.

Only for a holiday will I set these alarms. (Did I set the first one for 5 past rather than 3 to make myself feel mildly better? Maybe)

Skills used by various members of staff on ITU this afternoon: proning, ultrasounded guided lines, lock picking.

For more experienced consultant anaesthetists: how do I make my resident go for a break? I keep offering but they decline and it feels rude to say ‘go away’. (This is very tongue in cheek, obviously!)

45 mins to do the last 0.8 miles to work. It’s almost like giant hospital sites with two trusts on site as well as numerous community services need decent road/transport infrastructure.

Just popped into the Aldi near my gym which is deep in the student part of the city and boy can you tell the students are back. No milk to be had and I had to buy mild cheddar. Mild! Disappointing.

I know people have problems with terrible pillows mine is… not that. I have four of these pillows on a bed for just me. Technically six but two are in decorative covers and not to be used. How to sleep completely upright. iPad Pro for scale. #duvetknowitschristmas

2003 vintage port and ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ on TV from mum & dads couch. Merry Christmas!

My autocorrect just told my sister I did a teacher earlier. Trache. I did a trache!

What stage of Christmas prep are you family at? My mum has hit: ‘Well at least I’ve got the emergency lemon meringue pie’

OMG. This little Lego-loving F1 fan who grew up in the 90s is beyond excited about this:

When your woken up oncall slightly too late to go back to sleep and slightly too early to get ready for work. (5am mince pies are allowed in December)

Got this far and can’t yet face the hassle of putting the lights on. Might need a mince pie to strengthen me first.

I feel confident in saying: no doctor has ever declared that. I don’t think I’ve declared anything. This is up there with ‘the critical list’

Safety is a dynamic non-event. If you work hard and do it right, nothing happens.

The purpose of anaesthesia is to keep everything as boring as possible ✅

I will not be sharing my Spotify wrapped as it shows how truely weird and uncool I am.

As of 8am this morning I’ve finished my first hot week as ITU consultant. Still huge amounts to learn but for now a glass of chicken wine and a big bowl of pasta.

I am seeing a lot on social media about a certain celebrity and “banter” and how some see it as harmless and women do not. There is criticism of women who speak out years after the event. A few comments as I have some experience of “banter” in medicine 1/? #MedSky

Oncall and it’s the first of December. Time to crack open a chocolate orange.

Finally got my back pay! What did I splurge on? A rug and a new soup pan. 🤘

Was talking to @maffygirl.bsky.social and @urethroplasty.bsky.social about this and thought I’d share. Perhaps the greatest perioperative medicine trial (n)ever undertaken. The CRAC-ON trial. A @chrimesy.com classic associationofanaesthetists-publications.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

I’ve done that thing where I’ve got all the stuff for a recipe but didn’t read it and realise there’s a step: ‘marinade for four hours’.

72hrs ago I was in sunny Mexico and I wake up to this. This means is basically Christmas then skiing, right?
