Me flirting

Today's #bloomscrolling comes from a garden thrumming with grasshoppers and a woodland alive with bees and butterflies (but also a weasel).

'Davy Jones' Locker' by WL Wyllie (1890). A painting of an imagined underwater scene made before underwater photography was fully viable. The object listing at RMG says the artist made his own diving helmet from a biscuit tin, plus studies at Brighton Aquarium. Those fish though. 😍

Sharing some WIP footage for a new experiment that uses photochromic pigment and a custom UV laser projector. The images fade over time, allowing for an evolving canvas. More info here ablairneal.com/project/forg...

Oof. Planned six weekday evening adventures either side of a full on weekend. omg. this diary. the first line.

Long friend.

Last month, I gave a talk at the Computer Conservation Society on Lore Harp. Founder of Vector, she was a key figure in early computing. It's now online. I explore both her incredible story, and how sexism (then and now) has led to her being almost entirely forgotten www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMVc...

News from home: Hatching season has begun!

My favourite grasshopper fact: Grasshoppers first appeared on the planet 250 million years ago. Grass did not appear on the planet until 40 million years ago Imagine it: 210 million years, hopping around on any random surface you can find, waiting for the grass that will make you truly yourself.

My late ex was a photographer. Here is a thread of rockstars, only some of which I can name:

I have assembled my army.

James II absolutely serving in his Irregular Choice.

Ooh! Unexpected Aurora Borealis in the museum! How lovely to see one irl! #FranklinExpedition #Terror
