It took a few years, and unfortunately a lot of back and forth arguing, to finally have her see that it wasn't mentally or emotionally healthy for her to be like that.
Where as I'm more like you. Believe they're fine, doing their best to navigate their life, and reach out when they can.

One of my best friends was like that, if no one was responding to her messages for as little as a few hours, to as much as a few days, the level of how bad she thought things were going for the person would shoot through the roof. Did they hate her? Was she a bother? Ever a friend? Sick? Dead? Etc.
