Our paper on sparse sensorsets was published: www.frontiersin.org/journals/bio...! Happy to get it out after many private and professional challenges. We show that as long as there are IMUs on the feet and the thighs/pelvis, simulations are similarly accurate as with a full lower leg IMU setup.

If you see this and you're in the mood, quote post with a beach picture in your gallery. Monemvasia, Greece

Hello, early career researchers. The deadline for applications for the Promising Young Scientist and Jacquelin Perry Emerging Female Scientist Award are coming up on Feb 28. I HIGHLY encourage you to submit an application. See details here isb2025.com/submission/a...

Biomechanics analysis of surfing! We simulated surfing from inertial sensors and RGB camera recordings: www.researchsquare.com/article/rs-5...

Good Morning! On this day, (Sat.) Jan. 4 in 1883 Johanna Westerdijk was born. She was a Dutch plant pathologist and the first female professor in the Netherlands. By determining the role played by microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi in plant disease, she advanced progress. #WomeninSTEM 🧪

We have open sourced our simulation toolbox: github.com/mad-lab-fau/.... We have been using it for many years in many publications, and I’m very happy that it is now available to all! Many thanks to all coauthors and to adidas for their support in the development and release. Happy simulating!

Post a picture you took (no description) to bring some zen to the timeline

Our paper was published! When combining biomechanics datasets for ML training, bias might be introduced. We show that ML models can identify dataset source really well. Thus, training on multiple datasets can lead to identifying the source instead of data characteristics: dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.1...

ISBS members! Join us in Salzburg for a Women in Sports Biomechanics workshop focused on allyship - this is open to ALL members registered for the conference and we'd love to see you there! 16th Jul 17:30-19:30 (incl. refreshments!) Info: tinyurl.com/r52k23nf Sign up by 5th July: t.co/LVKpF95uu4

Please consider this petition calling to remove carnivorous fish farms as economically sustainable. Scientific evidence shows that they harm the environment and local economies around the world suffer, all just to gain profit for a small group of investors. And don’t eat their fish! fishfarmsout.org

New preprint! We trained a neural network on dynamic muscle force recordings and showed that it can better estimate muscle forces than a Hill model. This is a first step towards more accurate muscle force estimations in human simulations as well, but a long ways to go. #biomechsky

Starting the new year finally healthy again. Wishing everyone a healthy and lovely 2024!

My department at Manchester Metropolitan University (UK) is currently advertising a Reader-level position focused on education innovation in the sport and exercise sciences. It'd be great to get someone with a #biomechanics background in the role! Closing date 4th Jan www.jobs.ac.uk/job/DEO620/r...

Please RT. My lab is recruiting PhD student(s) with interest/expertise in #wearables, #biomechanics, #machinelearning, #musculoskeletalmodeling, and #mechatronics with applications to gait and balance control. Priority deadline is Dec. 5. More info at neuromoblab.com

Submitted the ERC Starting Grant proposal. Which offers to the reviewer gods do you suggest now?

The shoe choice was not good for the goal of getting back home, it was good for the goal of having new ideas about gait adaptations in new and unexpected environments. Now on to removing any thorns from my feet.

Hello World! I am a junior professor in computational biomechanics. We research human gait, mainly using simulations, and some machine learning. We try to predict gait in new situations, and reconstruct gait from incomplete measurements. Oh and news: I’ll switch into a tenured position in 2 years.
