This young man dreamed of serving his country, but severe #astigmatism with intolerance of glasses & contacts held him back. He had #LASIK & now proudly wears the uniform. #Lasereyesurgery doesn't just improve sight, it transforms lives.
If your vision is holding you back, let's talk.

Lest We Forget. This Anzac Day, I remember and honour my great-grandfather, Brigadier Edward Thomas “Eddie” Harnett, and his son, my great-uncle Flight Sergeant Terence “Terry” Harnett, whose service spanned both world wars. #AnzacDay #LestWeForget

"On Tyranny" is a #1 NYT bestseller again. I wish the moment were different. But I’m glad the book is useful. And grateful for all the kind words about putting the 20 lessons to work. snyder.substack.com/p/twenty-les...

📘 What can an elite cricketer teach eye surgeons? While reviewing “Tested” by Pat Cummins for the AAO, I didn’t expect to revisit so many pearls of wisdom that are directly applicable to improving clinical practice. It’s a quiet masterclass in performing under pressure & recovering from failure.

Another perfect example of how putting RFK Jr in charge of the DHHS is catastrophically stupid. This decision to sack Dr Pohlhaus and weaken regulations will put Americans at higher risk of severe eye infections.

A huge loss at FDA. Peter Marks originated rhe Operation Warp Speed Covid vaccine idea and has overseen so many essential biotech programs such as genome editing cures www.wsj.com/politics/top...

CDC ordered staff this week not to release their experts’ assessment that found the risk of catching measles is high in areas near outbreaks where vaccination rates are lagging. “The decision to vaccinate is a personal one,” a spokesperson said, echoing a line from a recent editorial RFK Jr. wrote

Today I lost an NIH grant training clinicians to do research about intimate partner violence with perinatal women. More women are murdered in the perinatal period than die of obstetric complications. I didn't just lose a grant. We lost an entire cohort of people building careers to prevent that.

Just one of the most compelling reasons for a government to fund medical research is that it very frequently creates economic gains. You also don't make a population healthier by cancelling medical research. Totally backwards.

As an ophthalmologist who sees #shingles affecting the #eye on a regular basis, this NIH grant cancellation is a terrible decision that will inevitably interfere with producing better clinical outcomes. RFK Jr is an anti-vax conspiracy theorist. #MedSky www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/...

I maintain that the best emails are citation alerts. They don’t require any action. They show that other people are using your research and building on it. This particular alert refers to a subject of great interest: how do we make cataract surgery as comfortable and relaxing as possible?

Where do you think Embase and Ovid MEDLINE and MEDLINE EBSCO and Scopus and Web of Science are getting their MEDLINE records from? Could it possibly be MEDLINE?

Is this where we say Google Scholar isn’t coming to save you? #medlibs

It is true. Global vandalism on an epic scale.

The vulnerability of PubMed under RFK Jnr has been a serious concern of mine for some time. The head of DHHS is an antivax conspiracy theorist; it follows that he disagrees with a lot of published medical science, and he has significant control over access. It’s a global problem now. #MedSky

Did you know that if you drink alcohol it gets into the tears and also messes with the ocular surface? Oral Alcohol Administration Disturbs Tear Film and Ocular Surface - Ophthalmology www.aaojournal.org/article/S016...

I created my CPD plan for the year in January, and then realised that I’d already done 30% of the yearly requirement. Had to double check it. Medicolegal reports and peer review of journal articles add up quickly…

The best part of my day was seeing 15yo Caoimhe Bray hit a paddle scoop for four in the NSW v SA WNCL. The bowler, Megan Schutt, is ranked #3 by the ICC for ODI’s. Amazing young talent.
