ok this last bit just sounds like rejection sensitivity dysphoria (nothing to do with gender dysphoria), a common feature of ADHD

†It's literally her job to teach physics in whatever language her students require. Needless to say, that's a hell of a job description. She says a fair amount of gesticulating is involved.
She also moonlights as a DJ. She is way cooler and smarter than I can ever even aspire to be.

You know, a trans public high school omnilingual†-physics teacher once told me that the ADHD students were actually her favorite. I rather suspect that there is an extent to which neurotypical teachers just don't know how to interact with neurodivergent students.

Focal length definitely plays a part. I prefer to shoot portraits with my 100mm lens, but obviously that’s not practical for selfies. Notice how thin the face looks wide angle

I don't think it really matters if there's no one to answer the phone or no one to see you at your appointment.

Shipping to and from Hawaii is quite expensive because of this: either use a very expensive domestic ship or use a very expensive airplane.
This isn't the main problem, of course. I just wanted to introduce Bluesky to a lovely additional problem they probably haven't heard of.

"[T]he Jones Act . . . requires that all goods transported by water between U.S. ports be carried on ships that have been constructed in the United States and that fly the U.S. flag, are owned by U.S. citizens, and are crewed by U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents."

businesses want predictability almost more than anything else. they have no way to plan for the future now. they could sign a billion dollar construction contract and then a month into construction musk stops the tariffs to help tesla and now it's impossible for the factory to compete
comment in response to
post
not only does it take years to build factories, and the goods produced will be much more expensive due to higher labor costs, and those factories will cost trillions to build (if you want to onshore literally everything), but businesses don't want to invest in them because trump is so unpredictable

i'm now finding that huge chunks of my personality--my soul--have withered from a lifetime of neglect, and that's a much bigger problem than physical dysphoria. why does surgery seem less scary than confronting our own traumas?
comment in response to
post
something that merely learning about surgery (i scheduled consults months ago . . . and they're not for several months yet) has forced me to accept is that surgery will only address specific dysphorias and my main mental health problem isn't anymore dysphoria per se thanks to social transition
comment in response to

ohmaigawd that sounds Alarming!
also that's not an issue i'd heard of before.
also a huge what-the-hell for denying the surgery. it sounds like a case of cis people treating trans people like an entirely different species.

i'm starting to see why Dr. DC puts so much emphasis on support systems and both pre- and post-op mental health care.

i thought the graft donor site preparation was intense but it's learning about the /recovery/ that's giving me pause to reconsider. i am reminded of a philosophical quote about how wanting something also requires wanting the means to achieve it.

i'm glad people share their bad experiences too. i've heard other people comment that people who haven't had any surgeries often (not always! or even mostlies!) have some Bad Takes, and express empathy for those who choose not to have any, precisely because of their own lived experience.

is that the complication that's not uncommon for new mothers? 'cause that sure does sound . . . intense, and a life-changing experience of a kind you really were not looking for. i hope things have gotten better for you!
also, like, did the ethics board like deny the surgery to fix it?!
