Thank you <3. I feel that. Dexter (my last doxie) passed 10 years ago, and it still hurts. They are so special.

She had a strength in herself akin to that she inspired in others. In November 2023 UV was diagnosed with meningoencephalitis (MUE), which has a prognosis of 6 months to 2 years if it canβt be cured. She made it through an incredible 1 year and 3 months.

UV made a difference in many ways, such as:
*Comforting colleagues as an office therapy dog
**Supporting traumatized dogs in building their confidence
***Promoting science and chemistry as a public ambassador
****Raising funds for suicide prevention and animal welfare

Yes cost of relocation and travel can make too huge a dent! And these are funded programs as well. My brain got muddled over that because I did undergrad in Canada too. π It's such a shame that travel is so expensive in NA.

Of course! I don't know what financial assistance you're getting in the US, but some schools in other countries actually have cheaper tuition for international students than tuition is here for domestic.

I am sure you're already aware, but it's helpful to talk to current grad students in labs you're interested in to find out if your advisor is the type to advocate for you. And to also look into what accommodation support is available.

Are other countries an option for you? It's ridiculous to even have to suggest it, but medical coverage in some other countries is more reliable. I did my PhD in #envchem at @chemuoft.bsky.social, and they were supportive and accommodating even 10+ years ago.

I think it depends on what you plan on covering. If the key focus #disabledinstem then it makes to streamline your content and make it feel more personal with your current posts on this account. But it should be separate if it's not related because it would be confusing.

It's great you're sharing fun STEM content! But please give credit where credit is due and either tag the original content creators, or add a link to the original content! In this case the art is by @chemscrapes.bsky.social and published by @cenmag.bsky.social
