MLK was most concerned about moderates who sought order over justice. We have watched as leadership has demonstrated this by attempting to silence progressive voices (whilst accumulating donor funds from Palantir, SpaceX). They are not going to step in as revolutionary opposition. They want order.

I am always struck by the belief that any human’s rights can be determined by whether other people agree they should have them or not — especially in a nation that believes its exceptionalism derived from its codifying of innate rights.

Never make common cause with fascism. Showing up has all appearances of supporting the status quo at time when NOTHING should be done as has been down before. Symbolic resistance is NOT opposition. No colorful fits. No booing like children. Stage an opposition event.

There is no “far left” in any meaningful way in America. Just people who want healthcare and not fascism. There is, however, a highly organized, astroturf far-right. And in case you didn’t realize, they’re in power.

If there’s an actual history to be written, it wouldn’t be the worst thing to focus on how social media irony mixed with resistance grifters and added to the normalcy bias of privileged white liberals laid the tracks for this mess. To watch this last decade play out like this has been nauseating.

In case anybody needs to hear this, we’re not in a regular political environment. We’re knee deep in a class war where the oligarchs are taking everything as fast as they can and linking up with an international authoritarian movement. Stop looking to an unwilling opposition or elections.

The corporate Dems have worked hard to maintain the status quo of neoliberalism which brought rise to fascism. They are operating from the same position trying to marginally silence their constituents without actually fighting for change. This is why they actively try to hold back progressives.

Jeffries clearly stated that he did not support his removal.

They are terrified to allow Jumaane Williams to step in. The greatest threat to the corporate class is a progressive activist who has the will, courage, and imagination to make fundamental changes rather than maintain the status quo.

@timothysnyder.bsky.social wrote an excellent piece about this in January.
