It was -10c here last week. +10c here today. On this forest trail, (silty soil, compacted) the subsurface needle ice layer was competent while it lasted. But it's rotting in the warm now, and it's really churning up the trail. You can suddenly punch through the rotten ice and sink 5-10 cm.
