Another long-running national scandal on which Governments & Oppositions huff & puff their promises to the public—& then do absolutely nothing. Plus further evidence of our spiv economy fuelled by a greed which enriches the basest of people www.bbc.com/news/article...

New #StrongMessageHere is up on #BBCSounds and indeed everywhere. Special guest Stewart Lee and I discuss politicians telling jokes and making TikTok videos attacking ‘weird Turkish barbers.’

CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS Seeking #activist teachers who are also qualified, fully registered & working in #Scotland schools. This is for my @unistrathclyde.bsky.social PhD exploring their experiences of #professionallearning & #activism. Grateful for your support! forms.office.com/e/cjNE3UkNyY

My local #activetravel #wheeledsports #charity Cycle Annick SCIO are launching a public consultation prior to their community asset transfer of a piece of land upon which they hope to develop a Pump Track. Details here - www.facebook.com/share/16SxKy... and here - cycleannick.org/activities/

We've made it easy to respond to tell the EHRC what you think of its wicked attempt to humiliate trans people. Please use, share in your networks, and allow us to contact you in the future. goodlaw.social/9e59e9

Here is the collection of over 250 ideas for teaching the waves topic from KS3 to A-Level. Follow the link to access them all: www.teachphysics.org/home/waves-i... Thanks to all who contributed and especially @ogdentrust.bsky.social for funding my time to make it. #ITeachPhysics #SciTeachUK

Another glowing endorsement @alomshaha.bsky.social

At full price Alom's excellent book is still an absolute bargain. If you teach science, learn science, do science or have just heard of science, you should buy it and read it. At this bargain price, but another one to give to a friend. (Gonna get one myself for our probationer teacher.)

For any of you for whom this might make a difference, Amazon are selling the paperback edition of “Why Don’t Things Fall Up?” for the ridiculous price of £3. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/152934819...

Thousands join anti-austerity march to protest against Labour’s cuts. Must rebuild after 14 years of Tory govt - no austerity, no real wage/benefit cuts; invest in public services; end profiteering; public ownership of essential services. Redistribute income/wealth. Democratise corporations.

A good start would be to dump the delivery metaphor. We deliver pizzas, we educate children. Tackling the culture of measurement and the resulting performativity would go a long way towards addressing the current problems

We should treat low test performance in low-stakes assessments like PISA with caution as it might be a test of motivation, not ability. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Found: the most extreme explosions in the known universe. "Extreme nuclear transients" likely happen when a massive star is shredded by a supermassive black hole. The black hole hides in gravitational darkness until it's silhouetted by the remains of its victim. 🔭🧪 www.hawaii.edu/news/2025/06...

There is no place for #BigOil or #FossilGas sponsored resources or competitions in schools. The industry has an agenda and, sadly, it's not the wellbeing of young people. This is a great article on the Energy Town game from Equinor. Spoiler: to win it seems you have to invest in oil or gas 🤢

Always a great listen, but this is a particularly brilliant episode. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Fascinating episode with @jimalkhalili.bsky.social interviewing @catherineheymans.bsky.social about Dark Matter and Dark Energy, comedy, science communication, outreach and women in science. Give it a listen. #iteachphysics www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

I hate to boast, but I was one of only 8.2 billion people to predict this would end in tears.

One for the folks at @educationscotland.bsky.social ...

Another really interesting episode of 'Talking Scottish Education' from @stuartphysics.bsky.social and @dnleslie.bsky.social speaking about #curriculum #reform with Andy Creamer from @educationscotland.bsky.social Many shortcomings of #CfE identified and discussed. Need for clarity and decluttering

McDonald's cures migraines? I'm doubtin' it. open.substack.com/pu... A viral TikTok claim says that a simple McDonald's meal is all that's needed to cure a migraine. That this is being taken seriously reveals all manner of problems. My latest blogpost, for your eyeballs #Migraine #McDonalds

Couldn't escape this guy over on Twitter, looks like he's followed me here now too...🙄

If Westminster rule delivers terrible outcomes under the Tories, no discernible philosophy or change under Labour, and the prospect of Farage as Prime Minister, what exactly is the case for Scotland remaining part of the UK?

Imagine. It'd be great if ScotGov and EdScot could bring these to fruition for teachers in Scotland as part of the Curriculum Improvement Cycle.

Awake early on a Sunday, but very much enjoyed listening to this great discussion about supporting the teaching of languages on Talking Scottish Education. Great to hear the about the importance and positive impact of subject specific professional learning. open.spotify.com/episode/3fqZ...

Do I know anyone on #ITeachPhysics with connections to roller coaster engineers/designers?

I work for Scottish Book Trust and we’re running a survey for parents/teachers/kids book enthusiasts about how they find books for kids. I’d be enormously grateful if anyone can spare 5-10 mins to share their thoughts. #KidLitUK forms.office.com/e/EdVhWA0T0n

When politics eventually corrects itself these people will go down in history as the worst pieces of shit imaginable. Heroes to their followers today, mere scum to the children and grandchildren of their followers tomorrow

How brilliant is this! All those asymmetric ones... mesmerising. #iteachphysics www.youtube.com/watch?v=YB7K...
