Meanwhile, BoM scientists are not allowed to attend the national meteorology conference this year in QLD to share their research and learn from fellow Australian scientists because there's no money 🤷‍♀️

I'd like to use some ground based solar data....

2/2 I'll be joined by two remarkable women in STEMM, Ruwini Cooray and Dr Morley Muse, and the discussion will be hosted by award winning science journalist Natasha Mitchell. Anyone can join the livestream tomorrow at 12pm AEDT

I think put which ever one you want the audience to look at first on the left (assuming an English speaking audience that reads left to right).

A lot of data is already copied to the Australian (and other) supercomputers. It is the real-time monitoring that is the biggest risk of being lost.

In coordination with NOAA and the Air Force, CW3E's AR Reconnaissance field campaign has successfully carried out a sequence of 7 IOPs for this event, with flights from both Sacramento (C-130) and Honolulu (G-IV). Additional flights are planned this week.

No, absolutely not, we are not doing this.

Interesting! The fact that 2023 was much drier than 2021 probably played a role in reducing the negative impacts

I don't think so, but we might try and get some night tickets mid-week if the weather is better.

ARTMIP (www.cgd.ucar.edu/projects/art...) is vital background reading for anyone using Atmospheric River detection algorithms and useful for studying weather object detection uncertainty in general. Or anyone wanting to build a successful, collaborative, international project and community.

I'll be honest, my algorithm is not really suitable for past climates in its current available form (but it's great for extreme #weather in the present #climate). However, I do have a new version that allows for relative thresholds, which I'll try to make available.

I'm fine, I'm nowhere near the fires, thank you for asking. Some rain this evening is helping fire fighters I think. Hopefully it's under control before Boxing Day as that will be another fire weather day.

Thank you 🥰 It's hard to keep going, if we only ever see the negative stories.

So much luck 🍀I received a significant scholarship during my Masters, that covered my living expenses, because I was the only person who applied for the scholarship and won by default.
