‘Child ~ children’ means the same as German ‘Kind ~ Kinder’ and Dutch ‘kind ~ kinderen’, and they look alike too. However, it’s not etymologically related to them in any way. ‘Kind’ is distantly related to Greek ‘génesis’ (creation) and Italian ‘gente’ (people). ‘Child’ has a different origin:

Last chance to support teaching #Latin in state schools in the UK. It shouldn't be as difficult to get Latin tuition as I found it (traipsed to next door school to do O-level in my lunch hour and suffered the unwanted #metoo attentions of someone else's headteacher).
