Food dyes are also used to attract consumers--especially children--to products, cultivating lifelong brand loyalty. See our scientific paper about this in BMJ: doi.org/10.1136/bmj....

The SNAP subsidy on ultraprocessed foods is an upstream driver of #metabolicdisease and poor health. We need to phase it out, starting with soda.

It's not just any old hidden subsidy. It's a subsidy on the unhealthiest parts of the food industry, like soda. Congress should instead subsidize fruit and vegetable growers through SNAP. This would be a double win for farmers and population health.
