So ive just seen a distracted boyfriend meme that's riffing on medusa, and it's clearly ai slop, and the watermark leads to an ai slop page and like...people used to *make* this nonsense. Part of the fun was that people took their time to do something. That was magical! And worthwhile!

Lovely chiasmus, which his cousin RuPaul also frequently uses (ā€˜gather round, ladies; ladies, gather round’)

I do genuinely wonder how many people think what happened with Wikipedia is that ā€œsociety accepted itā€ rather than that they put a ton of work into making it reliable, something that is not going to make AI reliable because no technology to actually understand meaning has been or can be invented.

Ace work that re-evaluates many assumptions about Anne Hathaway. It really goes to show the necessity and longevity of paper: I read recently that future historians may know far less about the 21st century than what came before it, because digital records are way more ephemeral in the long-run.

If anyone’s at a loose end tomorrow, this should be super interesting: a Zoom event with readings from poets who work at the intersections of natural history and museums. Should be a great session - for more info and to sign up, check out the link! www.eventbrite.ie/e/the-unnatu...

It’s getting to the point where I can imagine the news both-siding King Herod

This is literally how I found out the Pope had died

Happy Easter to this great post

Beyond the fact that I love this photo, I think about this concept ALL OF THE TIME. As an archivist, I am really conscious of the fact that it's likely we'll have a more robust understanding of the 18 and 19th centuries than of the 21st century. Why? PAPER. bsky.app/profile/doro...

Biological sex is not visible. It cannot be determined solely by visible markers. Defining sex by biology is a licence for the worst forms of racism, misogyny and bullying.

If TMI stands for ā€˜too much info’, then in Dublin TFI stands - not for ā€˜Transport For Ireland’ - but rather, given how inaccurate their app is, ā€˜too few info’* *let’s not argue over use of few/little; can we not just rally around shared disdain for one of the worst capital city transport networks

One of the biggest problems facing the world right now is that we have willingly checked boxes and signed away our data for years - in the name of convenience - and most people have no idea how all that information is about to be used to control us.

Much of the criticism surrounding Henry V debates whether or not he’s a war criminal.

I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it a thousand times more: If you love freedom but don’t care if it applies to everyone, what you actually love is privilege.

Hey, just a quiet reminder: it’s not true that people get more conservative as they age. *Populations* get more conservative as they age because poor and marginalized people die sooner. nymag.com/intelligence...

Biggest commitment to a 3 second joke I've ever seen

I have put off listening to the Naked Week because I have such high expectations of how good I want it to be. But I just listened to this and it was totally excellent. Thrilled for myself, having met Andy two or three times over a decade ago.

Is Jack Blanchard of Politico still saying that Trump has a mandate to do literally whatever he wants because he won the election?

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive. No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief. 1/ A 🧵 to explain his plan and how we fight back.

We’re getting way too close to Arrested Development needing glosses and footnotes, like a Ben Jonson city comedy, in order to explain context (ie, ā€˜this is a humorous line because in the early 2000s such a price would seem extortionate; it serves to identify Lucille Bluth as out of touch’).

val kilmer’s turn in TOP SECRET is one of the single best comedy performances ever committed to film, both in terms of comic precision and mechanical virtuosity. just watch this whole clip in its entirety; it’s stunning

Excited to say that the programme note I wrote for KING LEAR (currently @gatetheatredublin.bsky.social) has been re-printed for RTE Culture. Do take a look: I discuss the nature of tragedy, whether or not Lear is TOO sad, and how endings aren't foregone conclusions. www.rte.ie/culture/2025...

Certainly a misunderstanding of Butler. Very frustrating. For instance, if a pundit said of a footballer that they put in a great performance on the field, are they saying they were pretending to play football? No. Performance is a form of action wherein things *become* real.

Absolutely. Letting the arts do the work that should be government funded while cutting grants to the arts including teaching the arts in schools and universities. Short sighted is an understatement.
