I know! As these days it seems everyone knows how to make logo's, posters, flyers, pamphlets. #Microsoft just got rid of supporting Microsoft Publisher. Because everything you can do in Publisher now you can do in Microsoft word. If you know the programs. I make media posters in Power Point.
I love PowerPoint. I now use Canva for most of the design work I need to do (helps that we get premium at my volunteering job) but PowerPoint works so well if you know how to use it. Great little program
Canva is good as well. I use multiple #programs when formatting a flyer, poster, pamphlet. I don't use a template already created as I like to make my own. It looks like crap when I first start creating it though. It's really funny. I have so much fun with it. #fun #graphicdesigner #microsoft

So incredibly true. I could watch it over and over before I would notice all the changes. Which is pretty much what it feels like to do any kind of page layout in Word, so …
Microsoft's productivity software isn't my go to except for excel. Idk how the fuck they managed to make excel work so good, with the exception of the cloud version which is total ass.
Somebody suggested to me here a few months ago that Excel is the only corporate/productivity software that actually works because it is one of very few that high-level managers who make software purchasing decisions sometimes use themselves, and I think, yes, that explains it.
They had some amazing macros and buttons in their sheets that would place inventory orders, keep track of cash-outs print out deposit slips, send info to head office, and all kinds of stuff they couldn’t recreate in excel. They ended up buying multiple different software packages to do everything.
I now see that something called WordPerfect is still available (or available again) https://www.wordperfect.com
Does anyone know if that is the same as the one we used and loved, of old, or is it a completely new product just badged as WP?
Still used in the legal profession for ages longer than you'd expect, though. My Mom was still going strong with WordPerfect long after it'd been phased out of every job I had.
My mother retired in the mid- to late-2000's, but so far as I'm aware she wrote her opinions in WordPerfect till the end.
A thing I know because I fixed her editing, too.
i remembered how hard it was to move the picture, but as soon as i would turn it into a background picture or "behind the text" picture, it would move smoothly with no issue whatsoever. word is very silly sometimes
Hah! 🤣 That made me snort laugh. It's like when you kill a monster in an older MMO and the physics glitch out so it bounces and stretches until it's smeared mess covers your entire screen. Then you gotta wait for it to deres before you can do anything 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
The fact that the Web version and application are different make me furious, the way how I have everything laid out on one version is different on the other.
100%, but compared to actually doing it manually, it is pretty easy. The real genius of the video is the idea behind it, we've all felt that rage trying to move a picture in Word, and it captures that frustration perfectly.
No it’s not photoshopped because the mirror would still be reflecting what it had when upright.
Since the reflection changed positions, it means the mirror really did change position.
And it’s only 5 things flipped. It looks like a “big commitment” because of the sofa maybe.
They change it constantly but they never actually fix anything. It’s amazing that they became the world’s largest software provider by making buggy and awkward programs.
They got there by being immediately accessible. Linux is Linux (lack of driver support), Mac is rich folk Windows but more locked down in the ecosystem, BSD is arcane / really only used widely for servers and BeOS was made for single user and not multiple accounts. That leaves Windows
That sounds like a lot of programs nowadays...
*gestures heavily to Discord and how it keeps changing the UI but doesn't fix issues like mobile craving death or people getting banned for no reason while actual creeps exist freely*
Imagine making a program that is just as the user needs it to be. No hidden misfeatures, no unnecessary distractions, no UI changes, no bugs - it just does all it is needed for, and that's it.
The company making it sells it, and... eventually folds.
They became the world's largest software provider in large part due to anticompetitive practices, for which they have been repeatedly fined on multiple continents (but not nearly steeply nor often enough).
I swear, one of the keys to my success in business isn't because I'm good at my actual job; it's because I'm very, very good at fixing editing in Word documents. At every job I've ever had, everyone from project managers to CEOs has slipped me their documents to fix.
microsoft office became so ubiquitous through underhanded tactics, back in windows 3 days microsoft had a secret API for itself that was faster than the one they let everyone else use to develop programs for windows because they deliberately slowed it down, making microsoft office the fastest
a giant reason it's so terrible is that they insist on full backwards compatibility with all their old stuff... so broken things from 30 years ago stay broken by design.
This is the generous family who used to live in the best conditions, but the war has starved us. Our home has become rubble. My family and I need help. Oh people, if everyone donated one dollar, it would save my family from hunger🥹🥹 https://gofund.me/403e115e
I stopped putting picture fields in my Word documents long ago. If I want pictures in my handouts, I use Excel if they're small pictures or Powerpoint if they're large or multiple pictures.
Excel is much more than a spreadsheet. You'd be surprised what you can do with it.
I don't know who actually invented the digital spreadsheet but I've long considered it the most useful actual piece of software ever invented.
And I don't even use 1/10th of its features! (I use LibreOffice Calc.)
And another fucking thing: spending ages getting tabulation and line spacing consistent in an Outlook email, then sending it and seeing that effort completely mocked by the as-sent result, apparently at random.
Oh god, yeah the outlook rendering engine is hotter garbage than the rest of Outlook (and that's some pretty damn hot garbage I've had need to get FAAAAR too deep into)...
You can make it work for the first email, but guaranteed a reply or forward will 100% screw it all up.
OMG I've been battling with the number formatting all day today. It won't continue numbering when I want it to then starts a new list in a section from some random number. I delete a point and it throws the whole list out!
If you don't need it to be in Word (because say your professor is an idiot or your university uses UTTERLY BRAINDEAD anti-plagiarism tools) I REALLY recommend checking out LyX.
It's built on top of LaTeX is fairly user friendly and most important produces CONSISTENT RESULTS.
its a wonder how good excel is for a microsoft software, i've reached the point that i believe they have 1 guy who is really passionate about excel and he does everything
If you don't actually need the thing to be in Word format, I recommend LyX it's a WYSIWYM (what you see is what you mean) editor built on top of LaTeX, there's some idiosyncracies to learn but it produces consistent results no matter the output format (HTML, PDF, anything else LaTeX exports)
Except when it was just 1x and you're out of disk space
Why does Word have to expand a picture to it's full resolution instead of using the compressed image ?

Only thing missing is Clippy.
Tried to take a picture of a graph and put it into a word doc for future reference.
That thing was stuck to the first page like nobody's business even when i had a place on the 5th page clearly selected and ready.
Nothing i did would move it.

but hey, it's not called microsoft picture
Perfect 👌🏻

What a stressfull environment!
First change they made changed the whole document layout and they couldn't fix it.
When asked why, the MS contact said: “Well, you know what Word's like — you open a document on a different computer, and its formatting messes up …”
True that
I’ve been using tables for pics for years
(The secret: use tables with invisible borders)
Pretty well done, but some details betray it.
That video was clear maximum effort......totally worth it.
This isn't why she's now ex-supervisor, there was a lot worse that went on.

Lots of bugs => lots of versions => more money.
Honestly, once they locked that in, they haven’t needed to be actually good
I hate it so much.
Also I didn’t notice the lamp at first
I feel the pain 🥲
Her expression at the end is priceless…

The imposition of the Ribbon (the worst idea Microshaft has had in years) meant I couldn’t have my custom toolbars 👎.
Subscription 👎.
Microsoft software is entirely shit and we've been forced to use it for decades because the free market works for monopolies rather than innovation.
Not sure if this helps for what you're working on but it was a lifesaver for me.

Word is terrible.
Been using it since version 2.0
God, I'm glad those days are over for me
