Deansgate, Manchester, including the completed new cycle lanes. youtube.com/watch?v=oEtz...

"Where else am I supposed to park?" - what a stupid question. If there's nowhere to park, you can't just park anywhere. "Nowhere to park" means "nowhere to park"... literally. You wouldn't bring a boat, or helicopter, or grand piano... so stop bringing a car...

Had a tryout of the new Deansgate cycle lanes in Manchester this afternoon and rode down to Chorlton Park (Mauldeth Rd) and back on the Chorlton cycleway. All good to very good; puts Bolton to shame. No cost to go there on the train because I'm an old git.

I heard some illegal barriers had been installed on a walking and cycle bridge at Nob End in Farnworth so I swung by to have look. The gap between the two barriers is 65cm and they overlap by approximately 50cm. There's no way to get even a normal bicycle through this gap. ...

Today we celebrated the opening of Deansgate Cycleway by riding the entire length to Chorlton and grabbing a beer. The dream!

An impatient driver overtakes me approaching a blind bend and nearly takes out an oncoming motorcyclist. One second later and Yes, I'm going slowly up a very steep hill, but is it really worth risking a head-on collision just to save a few seconds?

Biggest commitment to a 3 second joke I've ever seen

This is important. The media are owned by oligarchs, they don’t want you to believe that you have the power to change things. We ALL need to wake our governments up.

drivers should be made to retake the road test at a minimum every ten years. do we really think this 79 year old would have been behind the wheel if her driving cognition was reevaluated?

It’s truly unbelievable that the population has been conned into believing that these are radical and extreme views. From Bernie Sanders’ book “It’s ok to be angry about capitalism”

It's not disruption that's being prosecuted in this country. It's dissent. This week's column. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

I received a heartbreaking email today: A paper in a special issue I’m editing is being retracted because one of its authors is afraid of losing their job and their legal status in the U.S. if they publish a scientific study on evolution. Yes, on evolution, nature's engine of diversity.

Next time someone tries arguing that it’s “social engineering” (cue ominous music) to give people CHOICES to walk, bike & take public transit in their city, tell them that designing our current car DEPENDENCY has been the largest and most damaging social engineering experiment in human history.

The playlist is done for this evening's #BoltonCriticalMass ride, and there is a possible route on the web site. boltoncriticalmass.wordpress.com/2025/03/17/2...

"I think that we need to drive down the cost of motoring..." www.standard.co.uk/news/politic... Absolutely, completely and utterly NO! Because: A. Motorists do NOT pay anything near their external costs" of ghg, noise, and noxious emissions; danger and crashes (not the same thing); ill health 1./

'Why the pothole fund shouldn't just be used on potholes', exhibit A. Carriageway recently resurfaced and silky smooth, but the accompanying footway is a mess – and that mess will have been caused by pavement parking.

Great thread showing people overwhelmingly want healthy streets, and walkable and cyclable places.

Come along and join us on the next #BoltonCriticalMass ride. 28th of March at 6.00pm. boltoncriticalmass.wordpress.com/2025/03/17/2...

🚨 *Land klaxon* 🚨 If this happens it would be truly remarkable. One of those key issues that's foundational for so much potential policy development.

Some videos of our lovely ride yesterday, showing how pleasant cycling carefully in the motor traffic-free areas is. Thankfully, this is legal now that the PSPO cycling ban has been lifted - well done @boltoncouncil.bsky.social. #BoltonCriticalMass boltoncriticalmass.wordpress.com/2025/02/19/2...

I can only bear to listen to Trump when these guys are guiding me through it … “There has never been anything like it in the Oval Office of the White House” … “I’m not sure we’ve seen anything like it full stop. Not in the history of diplomacy” 😳😳 podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/t...

This behaviour from Trump and Vance is truly shocking. Incredible calm patience from Zelensky. www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/... I suspect it will make no difference but I've signed this open letter: action.eko.org/a/world-lead...

Only a few hours to the 43rd #BoltonCriticalMass ride. Conditions are expected to be excellent, so come along and swell the numbers showing there is a demand for cycling in Bolton. boltoncriticalmass.wordpress.com/2025/02/19/2...

Politicians, when you keep saying "nukular", it makes you sound really stupid.

Excellent weather predicted for tomorrow's #BoltonCriticalMass. boltoncriticalmass.wordpress.com/2025/02/19/2...

This is really important. We’re in a time when good things we’ve achieved need to be fiercely fought for & passionately protected, including NYC’s smart, successful de-congestion pricing. Watch & share @streetfilms.bsky.social’s great video from yesterday’s protest with @misernyc.bsky.social & more.
