This morning, M23 entered #Bukavu and took control of key locations including the governor’s residence and Ruzizi 1 border crossing. Amidst broader confusion, M23 entry had been erroneously reported since Friday night owing to inconclusive videos circulating on social media.

Shame on you @isanet.bsky.social

My thoughts are with Bukavu, where friends, colleagues and all civilians are bracing for a new cycle of violence, with the M23 advancing to the city.

Just out: ILS report no. 23 which analyses the Bukumu Chiefdom in eastern DRC ! It looks at the different border dynamics, processes of urbanization, and associated tensions around identity and authority that shape the chiefdom’s political economy.

How do we understand the dissonance of teaching &writing on feminist approaches to conflict&violence in today's world? Reflecting w @drmmartind.bsky.social @priscyll.bsky.social @marieberry.bsky.social Nancy @millennjournal.bsky.social was a cathartic exercise! journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

If you don't know what to ask for for the holidays, ask for someone to give to an abortion fund in your name! Got a bonus this year? Amazing. Give it to an abortion fund. Found $5? Cool. Give it to an abortion fund! My MIL gives us money for holidays still. Guess what I'm doing w that check??

amazing opportunity for PhD students!

How long is too long to wait for the International Studies Association to make a statement on the almost certain return of a travel ban affecting colleagues for our 'global' gathering in Chicago in Feb-March 2025? The deadline to withdraw without penalty is less than a week away. Not a peep AFAICT.

Next week, I am back @cerium-udem.bsky.social to discuss with the inimitable @smmartinbrule.bsky.social and Ketty Nivyabandi about sexual violence, reparations and resilience in the DRC. If in Montreal, please join us!

What do we know about the interaction between gender inequality and climate change? and what can we do about it in an era of environmental catastrophe? Tomorrow I am speaking about this at an event organised by CARE Belgium at Flagey. If interested, follow the link below to register.

Thinking of deleting your X account? Think again. After 30 days, it’s gone for good—but your username could be hijacked by scammers or trolls. It might be better to delete all tweets, lock it and leave it inactive. Impersonation and account theft are booming. Stay safe.

Hi academics! Today's a great day to email the authors of a piece you have read and liked to tell them. Assigning a work in class? Tell the authors! Citing something bc it is smart and good? Tell the authors! Just liked something you read? Tell the authors!!
