Wet clothes off, warm cabin and a quick dry followed by a cup of tea and I was fine. Valuable lesson learned - don’t stand on the gunwale when there is a heavy dew.

It was a little sluggish starting, but fired up once I gave it a bit more throttle.

I’ve repaired the zip but it’s still a bit blowy and I’m worried it will fail again.
I have a temp data logger on board for when I’m away. Outside got down to -4 °C and inside to 0.5 °C. One concern was the amount of condensation on the engine. I assume that’s normal. I ran it to dry it out.

So far, so good. I had a baptism of fire as I needed to move the boat 30 miles through 30 locks and a tunnel on my first trip. I only had five days to complete the journey.

About Grey Wagtail - she is a 57-foot traditional-style narrowboat with a Beta Marine JD3 engine. I only bought her last month, and I am a complete newbie when it comes to canals, narrowboats and boating life. (3/3)

About me: I am a scientist, educator, and narrowboat owner. Here, I will mainly post about my narrowboat - Grey Wagtail, and my adventures (wanderings), with some science, nature, photography, a bit of history, and a dash of news. (2/3)
