Fantasy Medicine and the PA role. 3 years of some “science” subject and 2 years of “PA studies” is not Medicine. 3 years not studying Medicine plus 2 years not studying Medicine = 0 years studying Medicine.

Your Drs are being stolen from you. Across the NHS, a role taught 2 years of "PA studies” is substituting for Drs trained for 10 to 15 years. This is about cutting training and safety. It is not about care.

Is the PA role like the Dr role? Stethoscope - Yes Lanyard - Yes Scrubs - Yes Claims “medical” - Yes Accredited course - No Medical School - No 10 - 15 years training - No Taught by Drs - No "PA studies" is an unaccredited course, mostly taught by non Drs and lasts 2 years.

PA role concerns. "It would be cavalier to have people [ PAs ] released into the workforce, who we know don't have the same training as doctors, trying to do the work of doctors." Chief Exec. of Patient Safety Hub, speaks to Senior Cardiologist Dr Asif Qasim about safety concerns over the PA role.

BBC journalist regurgitates: "PAs take histories......" NO. Actually. They don't. A safe Medical history cannot be taken by someone following 2 years of “PA studies” Taking a safe history is most of what Medicine is. It takes 10 to 15 years of knowledge, skills & exams. We need to respond.

PA leadership claim: The PA role is "trained specifically to work in Medicine.” The 2 year “PA studies” course is not Medicine. Entry to Medicine is by competitive admission to Medical School. Then training for 10 to 15 years.

Completely accidental of course

The National Medical Director for NHS England appeared on @BBCBreakfast on 14/11/24 to claim that: The PA role has been "an integral part of clinical teams in the NHS for over 20 years” ? 20 years ago there were barely a handful of PAs working in the entire NHS A decade ago, there were only 135

PA Prof. Watkins - In my research for the PA role, I forgot to declare my financial conflict of interest. I forgot once. I forget twice. I forgot 3 times. I forgot 4 times. I forgot 5 times. I forgot for 5 years. My role as exec Director and shareholder in PA recruitment Co.

BBC journalists regurgitate UK government framing of concerns over PA role as “toxic.” It’s not “toxic” to speak up. It’s toxic to remain silent.

Sadly, the word “supervision” is offered as false reassurance for the 2 year "PA studies" role “Supervision”sounds familiar, reassuring, safe Which is why it’s such an effective weasel word Supervision is part of 10 to 15 year Medical training, not a substitute for it in medically untrained roles
