Diagrams and illustrations are generally more confusing than educational. Real photos and an instructor’s laser pointer is the way to go.

Thanks! Your experience is pretty typical, unfortunately. I, too, had only a brief lecture in junior high. Ours just showed us worst-case, untreated STI symptoms as a scare tactic.
