Having served as a Moscow correspondent in the early days of Putin's reign, this reminds me of how the Kremlin took over its own press pool and made sure that only compliant journalists were given access.

What a great paper to start my Tuesday morning. Love these medial temporal lobe figures!!!

An #NIH-funded research team has developed an mRNA vaccine to treat pancreatic cancer. Results from the clinical trial were published this week in Nature. #pancreas #cancer #mRNA #vaccine #medsky #science #medicine #bluesky

Costco and Trader Joes are yin and yang. Together they form a harmonious balance. One sells big piles of normal food, the other sells small piles of weird food. These are the two food piles people need

Multiple pathological processes appear to have contributed to the hippocampal atrophy and hypometabolism in a patient that has taught me so much about limbic-predominant amnestic neurodegeneration: doi.org/10.1111/neup...

One of our supporters shared this with us—people are getting creative tonight!

“The connection between amyloid-β and tau pathology appears to be disrupted in this individual…” The connection is functional, and the function is preserved in this case. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%. I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

Another small FO electrode study on AD patients showing interictal spikes absent on scalp EEG (>95% of all IEDs). Spikes were also asymmetric, with a bias towards the hemisphere with higher tau PET signal in medial and lateral temporal lobes. 🧠 academic.oup.com/brain/articl...

Can't understate the importance of this paper by Deepti Putcha & LEADS... EOAD is not an "earlier" amnestic phenotype. It's a fundamentally different disease. It's about time dysexecutive phenotypes receive the recognition they deserve. alzres.biomedcentral.com/articles/10....

perhaps he has a side quest for me

Thanks, Bryan. We all need to stand together. People say "We are all in the same boat", but that is wrong. We are all in the same storm! Some of us are lucky to be in a boat, but others in our community are in the water, and we need to help rescue them as we can.

Kiah Duggins is described here as “a brave and beautiful soul, a light in the fight for civil rights. Her loss is heartbreaking, not only for her family and friends but for everyone who believes in justice and equality.” www.kwch.com/2025/01/30/c...

Excellent work on lifestyle implications, especially for those with a genetic risk of Alzheimer’s disease (APOE4)

This is so devastating to so many people in the scientific community. The chaos and cruelty are not a bug, they are features.

I’m sure the CDC Doge edition is all over it

I had tried to replicate this one because it looked so good!

A nutshell of the chiefs season not being able to put games away. 2024 Chiefs: “we’ll leave the door open for ya”

"What happened?" "I’m stuck. It's so embarrassing." “I guess things went... a-rye?” “Please do shut up.” "You should get out of the sun." "Why?" "Otherwise, you'll be toast." "You're an asshole, Charlie." “You’re right, you deserve butter.”

The mimicker of Alzheimer’s disease. Progressive amnestic syndrome with: 1) Hippocampal atrophy 2) Older age ~ 80+ 3) Negative AD biomarkers • Caution with amyloid positivity common with aging • Tau PET ideal but not covered • FDG-PET medial > lateral Temporal hypometabolism = supportive

Additional evidence of brain network dysfunction early on in AD biology - amyloid pathology intrinsically linked to hyperactivity in a vicious cycle. Each time neurons fire -> APP expressed. Aging neurons with mitochondrial dysfunction struggle with hyperactivity. academic.oup.com/brain/advanc...

Large-scale studies often report findings about what seems to be an unusual "young-onset, aggressive" subtype of AD. Clinically we call this dysexecutive AD. We clearly define the distinct clinical and biological features of this AD variant here --> academic.oup.com/braincomms/a...
