That’s a wrap on this year’s UK Ghost Story Festival- another wonderful event, all thanks to the hard work of @alexdavis1981.bsky.social & team. My duties at the Festival concluded with interviewing Edward Parnell about his beautiful literary memoir #Ghostland. The perfect end to a great weekend.

@drtimrideout.bsky.social interviews Edward Parnell (author of Ghostland) on the final day - and the final panel - of this year's #Ghost #Story #Festival @museumofmaking.bsky.social

Delighted to be back at @museumofmaking.bsky.social for this year's #Ghost #Story #Festival, a weekend dedicated to #books and to all things #gothic and #spooky. @folklorepod.bsky.social @willowwinsham.bsky.social @alexdavis1981.bsky.social @unheimlichmanvr.bsky.social

Loved discussing witchcraft in fiction with @traceynormanauthor.bsky.social @cathrynk.bsky.social @ekleewriter.bsky.social Celebrating all that fiction can do, including giving voice to the marginalised, providing a way of decoding societal anxieties, and demonstrating the power of stories 🖤

Took part in a wonderful discussion about #witchcraft in #fiction today, moderated by @drtimrideout.bsky.social and featuring the brilliant and inspirational @cathrynk.bsky.social and @ekleewriter.bsky.social - please give them a follow! Good things to come - watch this space! #witchsky #Booksky📚💙

The @backlisted.bsky.social Biography / Memoir special is totally NOT rekindling my literary crush on Elizabeth Jane Howard...

THE SHADOW KEY by @sstokeschapman.bsky.social Not only is ‘The Shadow Key’ one of my favourite new novels - a beautifully written Gothic tale full of Welsh folklore, mystery, suspense and history - it’s author, Susan Stokes-Chapman is the perfect interviewee, articulate, interesting & interested.

‘Like one, that on a lonely road Doth walk in fear and dread…’ Evoking Samuel Taylor Coleridge, @sstokeschapman.bsky.social’s THE SHADOW KEY exemplifies the #Gothic novel at its unsettling best. An atmosphere of myth, mystery and threat pervades the novel. A great book, highly recommended!

I am enjoying THE SHADOW KEY by @sstokeschapman.bsky.social greatly. It’s an accomplished combination of unease, terror, mystery and folklore, and I love it. The #Gothic at its best. And it quotes Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s ‘mission statement’ of dread, from The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere (1798).

Glastonbury Abbey, earlier today. February’s grey could not dampen the Abbey’s charm.

I appear to be available to preorder at ⁦Waterstones‬⁩ 😊 How exciting! 🖤 www.waterstones.com/book/gothic-...

Glastonbury Abbey, from my back garden. The light is winning ❤️

Home. Today. As a friend of my late Mum’s just said to me, I’m a Glastonbury boy. And I always will be.

A very special evening at the Lincoln Assembly Rooms chatting to @alexhaybooks.bsky.social about his wonderful novel, ‘The Queen of Fives’, for Lindum Books. Victorian con women, the sensation novel, and of course Alex’s brilliant articulation of his writing approaches - we covered a lot 😊

Lincoln’s Windmill. The early February late afternoon light lingers.

“For years, a masculinist current in American culture and politics has been rising, largely in digital spaces outside traditional media and entertainment,” Joseph Bernstein writes. “Now, it has flooded the banks of the mainstream.”

Black Thorn is insanely cheap for the whole of February. If you fancy reading a slow-burn psychological thriller with an autistic main character, fill your boots 🧡 rb.gy/yt7mlh

My winter reading exploration of Central and Eastern Europe continues with ‘Hrdý Budžes’ by Irena Dousková, one of the most famous Czech prose works published since the Velvet Revolution.

Tempted to stay up to make sure January actually ends.

It has a cover 😱 and soon to be an Actual Thing... books.google.co.uk/books/about/...

‘Listen to them, the children of the night. What music they make.’ Bram Stoker - Dracula Paul Kenyon’s ‘Children of the Night’ is an outstanding achievement, narrating the history of Romania with empathy, honesty, clarity and passion. #ChildrenoftheNight #Romania @paulkenyontv.bsky.social

Called into @waterstones.bsky.social Piccadilly this evening - visited their @thebookerprizes.bsky.social library - just amazing 🖤

Rich in character, plot & adventure, #TheBlackbirdsofStGiles by #LilaCain immerses the reader in a vivid, explosive recreation of 1780s London, a place of danger and oppression, but also of friendship and love. This novel pulses with excitement & emotional power www.visitlincoln.com/event/an-eve...

Great book post today: ‘The Red Shore’ by #WilliamShaw Due to be published in July 2025, #TheRedShore is the first in a new crime series set in Devon. I admire William Shaw’s work greatly and will have the pleasure of chatting with him at this year’s @baytales.bsky.social
